Show February 10, 1984 DIXIE SUN ixie College Career Bay 1984 well attended ?d The 1984 Dixie College Career Day took place on February 7. It in- high school students and college students. A total of 29 high schools responded to the invitation to attend the activity by bringing students to the experience. The activities began at 9:00 a.m. that morning with the Opening Assembly in the Dixie College gym. Seated at the front of the gym were studentbody and class presidents from the high schools, school principals and counselors, Dixie College officials and visiting guests. Among those was the guest speaker, Bruce Hurst, star pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. The assembly was conducted by Dixie College Studentbody Vice President, Dan Derrick. President Wade then addressed those in attendance. In his speech, he commended those who organized and made Career Day possible and thanked the specialists and who gave their time to conduct the workshops. He also commended the students for taking the time to attend and for their concerns with their futures. The next speaker was Bruce Hurst. He began his speech by saying that the toughest thing about professional baseball wasnt traveling and getting used to the team, it was teaching his wife Holly about baseball. He then related some amusing stories about various instances when Holly had misunderstood some baseball language. Hurst then went on to stress that to become a good major league n baseball player, it takes a hard in learning how to lose. He added that it took a lot of preparation to get to where he was at and stated that Preparation Proceeds Power.
