Show DIXIE SUN January 27, 1984 Page 7 Woodbury retirement announced Barnum named as science dean The office of Dixie College Vice President Dr. Peter Nyberg announces the retirement of H. Loraine Woodbury, dean of Division of Natural Science. The retirement was effective as of January 1, 1984. At Dixie, Mr. Woodbury served as class advisor, dean of students, administrative dean, department head, biology instructor, associate professor of biology, and zoology. Mr. Woodbury graduated from Dixie High School, Dixie College, and Brigham Young University. He also studied at Utah State University, Desert Biology Institute at Arizona State University, and Marine Biology Institute at Oregon State University. He also taught at Uintah High School in Vernal, and Lincoln High School in Orem. He was born in St. George to Lawrence and Ina Hall Woodbury. He married Catherine Carter in the St. George L.D.S. Temple in 1946. He has two daughters and four sons. He received an outstanding service award from the Bureau of Land Management and has worked as a naturalist at Zion National Park and Cedar Breaks during the summers. One of his special concerns is teaching students to conserve and care for natural resources. & Dr. Andrew Barnum has been named dean of the Natural Science division at Dixie College. He has worked at the college for 25 years. During his tenure, he has worked as Dixie College vice president, pro- fessor of biology, museum curator, and chairperson over the Natural Science division. '! !: jjii Dr. Andrew Barnum SUSC recruitment representatives to visit Dixie College campus Building construction Southern Utah State College will be on campus at Dixie College, Tuesday, January 31, 1984, and is going to make it as easy as possible for Dixie students to transfer to the four-yeschool. Not only will representatives from the 2,600 student school in Cedar City be passing out scholarships to qualified students on the spot, they will be accepting students for admission and providing detailed information on financial aids available to transfer students. continues ar Bids were let in December and construction began in earnest last week on the new addition to the Home Economics building at Dixie College, valued at nearly 750,000, and is scheduled for completion in September of this year. The prime contractor is Broderick and Howell Construction, of Salt Lake City, with Robert Cox, of Rockville, as project superintendent, Leslie A. Stoker, of St. George, architect, and Wilkinson Electric and L &1 Mechanical Contractors as the sub contractors. Ned Carnahan, Dixie College director of Physical plant, in describing the project said, There will be some remodling of the present facility to update it and bring fire codes up to the present and to extend the windows on the south down. He went on to indicate the new facility will face west, will have four entrances, similar to the present science building, and will include a foyer and reception area surrounded by twelve new offices. Mr. Carnahan complimented Mrs. Dona Parkinson, the home economics department head, for all the time and effort she has put forth over the years, to see this project become a reality. She deserves a lot of credit for having a program and area grow, to make this addition necessary. She has been planning for this day ever since the first building was completed a number of years ago. College officials are especially pleased that with the completion of construction, the nursing program which is presently housed in the Professional Plaza, south of the Dixie Medical Center, will be moved back on campus for the first time in five years. burger WO He received his education at Brigham Young University, and Iowa State University. He has had several offers from other colleges and universities but turned them all down to continue here at Dixie. Mark Barton, Director of Admissions and Records, is that all graduating Dixie students currently under scholarship will see an equivalent scholarship awarded at SUSC, with no interruption in benefits.
