LA 104 Dr. Tim Bywater There have been many comments and ideas voiced about the Dixie Sun. We as editors have heard much of the talk that has been shared among the students. Some comments such as The paper is boring, and We would like to see an entertainment section, have been tossed around. As editors we feel we are doing the best we can considering what limitations we have to work with. Now many of you are asking what kind of limitations? Well, the Dixie Sun is a student-basefunction. We that are involved with the Sun spend most of our spare time working on peperations from one issue to the next. We spend many hours, sometimes untill wee hours early in the mornings on Thursdays, in order to get the paper ready for the press. On top of our other duties and responsibilities. We are students much like the rest of acyou. We have lessons and other tivities in which we are involved. We are not trying to say that we dont enjoy what we are doing, because WE LOVE IT! !! Just sometimes it is not an easy job. d 130 - The 26 - Thirty-Nin- e Steps Grand Illusion 213 - Breathless - Occurrence at Owl Creek 220 - Persona 227 - Nanook of the North, Night & Fog 35 - Selected Experimental Films Applications available Dixie Sun Editors air views concerning The comment has been made that some of yoi would like to see articles about students. Also we are asking for letters to the editor dr: This will help in making the paper not quite sc sch boring. Ne As for the entertainment section, we feel we an Ut; running a College newspaper not a high schoo leg paper. Yes, the larger papers have funnies bu am those funnies are syndicated and cost more mone; sec than we are allowed to spend. As much as we like carntoons ourselves, we feel the Sunday Spectrun car does a fine job. fir: Many of you have voiced an opinion about the Fe: want of a controversial paper. In reference to this J' because of the paper being a school funded func tion, we have restrictions we have to abide by Dij We can not print anything that will cause grea; tro in the school. We car om controversy and not and will not print anything g o: pla harmful to the school or the students. The cheerleaders make more noise and act more excited than the entire audience itself (and there are only six of them.) The crowd doesnt even boo or cheer when the referees make a call, whether it be good or bad. By the time the game is over, more than half the crowd is gone. Why doesnt the crowd stay until the end to give the teams the respect and support they deserve? The teams work and practice hard each day to get ready for these games. They want to give Dixie a good name as far as sports are concerned and the crowds dont even have the decency to support the teams to make Dixie great. The rebelettes get more applause at half time than the teams. Ed Rogers makes more noise than the entire crowd. The alumni and local townspeople attend the games more faithfully that the Dixie College students. The students are Dixie. They need to help the athletic teams make Dixie better than what it is. One way to do that is to give more support to the Rebels at the sporting events. Come on, lets see ll if we can the cheerleaders at the games this weekend. First of all, I object to myself, or any of my fellow students being called liars, cheats, offensive ingrates, and illiterate. We are not liar: because we dont always study. We are not cheat: because our learning experience is different from someone elses opinion of what college should b: like. Furthermore, I havent experienced an; rowdy behavior in my classes and my teachers ap predate class participation. I ask you, is tha: offensive? out-ye- We Letters-to-the-Edit- Del I Kelly Smiley The Dixie Sun is published weekly or by the students of Dixie College. Being reluctant or unable to read a text doesnt make them ingrates. I have been reluctant to do many things, but I dont call myself an ingrate. We do demand education if we did not, we wouldnt be paying for tuition and books. In conclusion, I agree that the teachers are dispensing much, but I also believe that Dixie students are demanding excellence. Pete Townshend wer Lyt |
