The Rebelettes will perform their first routine to the theme from Star Wars at the Homecoming game. Also chosen were Marlyn Frei. from St. George; Jenny Jones, from St. George; Joan Leavitts, from Orem; Diane Mathis, from St. George; Kim McArthur, from St. George; connie Neilson, from Washington; and Mace Pratt, from St. George. Students this year have shown a great deal of enthusiasm for candidates. The Sophmore class has three parties running for president and vice today president. They are: Scott Snow and Diane Mathis; Mike North and Mark and Fred Wall and Geri Anderson. Only Joyce Barney is running for class secretary. For the Freshman, Bur-del- l Hall and Beverly Dixie Debaters Travel e 77-7- 8 n t, Byjoleen Wagner The Debate and Forensic team left this morning to travel to Mesa, Arizona for the first meet of the quarter, the Mesa Madcap. Entered in the Persuasive and After Dinner Speaking categories will be the returning Sophomore Tammy Fowles. Last year Tammy brought home three trophies and the forensic squad is expecting great things from her this year. Tammy was also chosen outstanding Dixie College Forensic Student for the month of October. A other returning sophomore, Ann Mitchel, will be competing To Madcap in Persuasive and Impromptu Speaking at the Arizona meet. In addition to the two, entered in the Madcap are freshman Elain Shamelaine and Val Cook, Oral Interp; Lynette Neilson, Impromptu; Geri Lynn Bishoff, informative and Duet Acting; Shirley Copier, Duet Acting; and teaming up for will Debate be Hugh Howard and Lynette Neilson. This year Dixie has a new Debate and Forensic Coach, Donald Hinton. Prior to coming to Dixie, Mr. Hinton With students like these working for us how can we ever feel uninformed? Enrollment Tops Records For the second straight year Fall Quarter enrollment has topped all previous records at Dixie College in St. George, Utah. According to Dixie Registrar, Vern Thomas, the Fall Quarter headcount, as of October 10, 1977, rests at 1504 students, and it is expected to increase to 1554 before registration ends. The current Figure repre11 sents an approximate percent enrollment increase over Fall Quarter 1976, the previous record year, when 1343 students were registered. spent three years teaching in the military and another two teaching at B.Y.U. Coach Hinton explained that even though the squad is quite inexperienced, it has a lot of talent and he is looking forward to a terrific year. |
