Show Page 4 -- THE DIXIE. SUN - October 31, 1975 Gridders Lose a Close One At Glendale The Dixie Rebels traveled to Glendale, Arizona last weekend for a close match with a tough opponent. Although Dixie lost the game the Rebels fought hard. If it hadn't been for three fumbles and some crucial defensive mistakes Dixie would have returned with a victory. Coach Bunnell commented, We really deserved to win as far as ability is concerned. But we gave them two easy touchdowns and lost the game. The final score of Saturday's contest was Glendale 22 - Dixie 20. Dixie got off to a great start when they scored the first time they touched the ball. Leavitt carried the ball on a short run the score 7 0. play making Glendale kicked a 40 yd. field goal and followed up with a short pass into the endzone to bring the score to 9 7. During the second quarter Glendale scored twice on short passes. At the half the score stood 22 7. Dixie looked like they just might put it all together in the second half of play. They fired up and scored once each quarter. Leavitt carried again on a short run and Kevin Olsen carried on a play. Jack Christiansen was taken out momentarily during the third quarter and Greg Glazier looked good standing in as quarterback. The offense was praised overall for the way which they managed to keep up with some very determined opposition. The close final score shows the ability of the Rebel offense. However Dixie didnt come out on top and it was a disappointing loss. Glendale was unable to penetrate and the improvement over previous games was noticeable. Coach Bunnell emphasized the importance of this improvement in the upcoming game. November 1 Dixie will face the College of the Desert in a home game. The Palm Springs, California team should prove to be an even match for Dixie. Their season record of is comparable to Dixies record of Coach Bunnell describes the teams attitude as one of determination. We arent going to quit or give up. Dixie has what it takes and if we want the win bably enough we will get it. the Rebels will be up to full strength Saturday when they meet the College of the Desert. Merlin Wilkinson and Kevin Olsen have both been performing well as replacements for Theodore Curtis who is out with a jaw injury. Chris Hardy is almost fully recovered from a knee injury.
