Show Page 2 - THE DIXIE SUN - October 3 , 1975 Monkeys Hold Concert Cheers To Gardeners If past performance records are any indication, St. George fans may be expected to go ape' As is true in most places there are many unsung heros here at Dixie College. These are the people that keep the campus couldnt do without, hut never seem to get the attention they deserve. One group of these unsung heros at Dixie is the grounds keepers. Admittedly Dixie College isnt the most beautiful campus in the world, in fact there are some spots on campus that leave much to he desired. There are the ugly brown patches of grass in all the lawns. There are the bare spots on the new landscaping around the fountain. And there are a few other bad spots. Hut this doesn't discredit the groundskeepers any. The fact that it doesn't look worst- is a tribute to their hard work and dedication. These crews face many problems fairlv unique to this campus, k irst of all the St. George soil and particularly that upon which the college this Tuesday evening (November 4) as the Monkees - or at least a reasonable facsimile of that old group perform in concert at the Dixie television-recordin- College gym. King Cousins To Appear Robert Prince. 1975 Home- at Dixie chairman College, announced today that through the efforts of Dr. LeRoy Nisson, the world famous King Cousins will appear in concert at the Dixie College gym on Friday, November 7 at 8 p.m. The event is part of Homecoming Week at Dixie, scheduled for November 3 through 8. In addition to their appearance Friday night, the girls will ride as guests of honor in the Homecoming parade Saturday morning (November 8), perform at the Founders Day program and be special guests at the football game Saturday afternoon, where they will be honored activities. Its during reported they will also be in attendance later in the evening at the banquet and dance. Commenting on the scheduled concert, Dixie College Dean of Students, Rudy Iverson noted, We are honored to have the King Cousins as guests of the college during Homecoming. The girls have performed as part of the famous King Family on television and around the world in concert engagements. We look forward to giving them a warm Rebel welcome at Dixie. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the college athletic department, Iverson indicated, and advance tickets may be purchased at the college administration building, or at the door the night of the performance. In addition, representatives from the Dixie College Lettermens and Cheerleaders Club, Rebelettes will be selling tickets door to door on a city wide canvass. Cost is $3.00 for adults, $2.00 for students and children and family tickets for $7.50. half-tim- e It has been brought to my attention that glasses seem to be disappearing from the cafeteria at a record rate. It would be understandable if only a couple of dozen were missing, but since the beginning of school 500 have been CARTED FROM THE SUI1. The glasses aren't the most expensive items in the world, but stealing is stealing if it is $1,000,000 or a 10 cent plastic glass. It is nice to have a couple of glasses in the apartment, but I hope that the person using them has paid for them and not forcing all the DC studentbody to pay their cost. NoLhing but scrubw'eed grow's well in high alkaline soil, ihe clay necessitates constant airing ouL" so that it doesn't pack too hard. Secondly, the constant southern Utah winds blow in weed seed from the vast open areas adjacent to St. George. Thirdly, this area seems to be especially conducive to the growth of crab grass which is next to impossible to dig out o a lawn once it gets a start. In the winter crab grass turns brown. Also the water hen is not ideal lor plants. It is high in mineral content as evidenced by the white solid material covering the bricks surrounding the fountain. This comes from the mineral residue lett by the evaporated fountain spray. Since it rains little in this desert climate, heavy wsilering is required lor all lawns and shrubbery. Then finally there is the financial difliculty (another mutal malady here). Equipment is out dated and in need of constant repair. More workmen are needed and more soil nutrients should be bought. The new landscaping around the fountain does look a little shoddy, but with a little time the groundskeepers will have it looking better. As lar as the area around the library goes on the upper part of the campus, it hasnt ever looked better in the time that Ive been here. The maintenance department is headed by Larry Rosenbruch with Hob Olsen in charge of the grounds.
