GEORGE, UTAH, FRIDAY, MAY 28, 1965 NUMBER 13 DIXIE HONOR STUDENTS RECOGNIZED & W The Dixie College Honors and Awards program held last Monday evening in the auditorium recognized the achievements of Dixie students. Merrill Webb was named recipient of the Social Service award presented by the community to the graduate who has contributed most m both the school and community. Named as outstanding students of the respective classes were Katherine Larkin, Garth Pickett, Joy Johnson, and Dick Whitehead, Music awards went to Clarence Ott, Musician of the Year; Roberta Rahlf, Vocal Music Service Award; and Herman Ventura, Instrumental Music Service Award. In the field of art, Irma Thomas received Ceramic of the Year Sunderland was award, Gary i - 1 Left to right, Garth Pickett and Katherine Larkin, outstanding freshmen; Joy Johnson and Dick Whitehead, outstanding sophomores. GRADUATION EXERCISES PROGRAMMED The graduating class from Dixie College will be the largest in Dixies history. Diplomas will be awarded to 105 graduates. Activities for the graduates will begin Tuesday, June 1, with the Presidents Tea for all graduates and their parents. The tea will be heid from 7 to 9 p. m. on the east lawn of the Fine Arts Center. Commencement exercises will be an address by Governor Calvin L. Rampton. Prior to taking office last January, Governor Rampton was a lawyer and recognize as an authority in transportation and taxation law. He was admitted to the U. S. Supreme Court in 1946 and is a member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He also achieved distinction and honor in World War II. Governor Rampton did his underUniversity graduate work at the ' o f Utah, continued his study of law at George Wash ngton Univer-sLy- , and received Ins LLB degree from the University of Utah. Wendell Bayles A. Karl Larson will be honored and recognition awards will be presented to Matthew M. Bentley, H. Bruce Stucki, and Governor Calvin L. Rampton. The prayers will be offered by Merrill Webb, student body president and Delwyn Cox, sophomore class president. Following the exercises, the annual commencement dance will be reation Hall. Rec-an- d X Delta Psi Gives Awards At a formal banquet in the cafeteria May 19, the Delta Psi dramatic fraternity presented awards for outstanding performances during the year. Bob Jones walked away with the award for Best Performance of the Year for his portrayal of Biff in Death of a Salesman. Roberta Rahlf was named Best Actress for her performance in The Sound of Music, and Ralph Best Atkin won the award for Actor for his role in Life With and Todd Tobler was honored for che Outstanding Painting. His painting was unveiled and will be left with the school collection. Also were Journalism given Award to Margaret Force; A. Karl Larson Award, John Brearton; Social Science Award, Carol Forensics Aw'ard, Colleen Mathematics Award, McKay Miles; Bell; Chris- tian; Science Award, Mike and Mack Easton; Business Award, Don L. Earl; Creative Writing Award, Spencer Thompson; Debate Team Award, Lyle Shamo and David Lloyd; Biology Award, Pat McCaf-fertDrama Award, Sharlene Chemistry Award, Dean Holt Home Economics Aw'ard, Wilma Hinton; Dance Award, Beverly North; and Outstanding Athlete, Lynn Christensen.
