BY it I it I it I What is the reason so many students are leaving school? That is the question which is being asked by many today. Is it because they feel they are not getting a square deal at the Dixie college, or is it for other reasons? I asked some students to give their opinion on this matter. One told me that he may quit because he just cant live on ninety dollars a month. He is married, and has children, and a farm, which right now is taking money, and wont give any gain until fall. Another student said the reason she believes students quit school is that they dont feel they are popular enough, or they get married; and, if they are girls, they feel their place is at home. Also some students miss classes for one reason or another, and get behind in their work. They then get discouraged and think quitting school is an easy way out. Some other reasons that are given by students are these: Some of the G. I.s felt when they left for the service that they would never return to school again, but now that Uncle Sam is paying their way they wish to go to school again if for nothing else than the money. Some have said that they feel the teachers are pushing them too fast, or that the teachers dont realize that they, the G. I.s, have forgotten a lot, and that it must come back slowly. Some have come back from the service and then started right into school; its hard for them to adjust themselves to civilian life. Others have said the reason they quit is that the subsistence allowance is not enough to cope with the high prices. Therefore they are not getting enough to eat, and perhaps mot good living conditions. They say, We have been away from home for a long time, and went through the hells of war; now we wish to stay home for a while, rather than try to live without enough to eat or suitable living conditions. These are some of the opinions of the students of the Dixie Junior college. What can be done to relieve the IV.V.V.W.V.V.V.V.V.V.Vi I envy that fat woman when she laughs. Why? He said he liked very much being a cheer leader for Dixie and that it was lots of fun to lead a peppy squad, and not a dead group that is found in so many schools. He feels that Dixie students have been very fine in sup. porting the leaders. Although Stan has acted as cheer leader for two years, is d and likes the work, he doesnt intend to tryout again next year. He feels that a good pep club can contribute very much to the spirit of a school. But he likes b the idea better than the system that has been used this year. When there are two clubs, it more or less splits the unity of the school, he says. He recommends that the old system be used next year. He also advises three cheer leaders. Too, he thinks that a club with both boys and girls is better and more effective, since the boys can yell more loud- well-like- one-clu- t spite has Th High School Graduation Requirements Listed Minimum for requirements graduation from high school in Utah were received by President Snow from the State Board of Education. We freshmen really appreciate the grand way we are accepted in the school. When we came from the Woodward, I frankly confess we were frightened. We were young, unacquainted, and expected the worst. The seniors, despite all this, welcomed us and made us part of them. I believe their seniority in the school has only made them sympathetic towards the freshies. -- I.
