Show Okie VOLUME 8 WEDNESDAY, COLLEGE AND HIGH 'ter oiimalists' SCHOOL NUMBER MARCH 5, 1947 BASKETEERS 16 YIH TOURNAMENT BIRTHS HIGH UNDEFEATED COLLEGE THIRD IN MT. CONFERENCE As a climax to a successful basketball season, both the college and the high school squads will participate in major tournaments this month. The college group, coached by Walter Brooks, is playing in the Western States tourney at Compton, California, this week, while the high school bos, coach-b- y Harold Stowell, will take part in the Utah State Class B meet in Salt Lake next week. The collegians are being tested this afternoon at 3:30 by an opponent not yet known by the D. J. C. staff. The B. A. C. is in the same bracket as Dixie; they were scheduled to play Clark college last night at 9:30. Weber college, Rocky Mountain champions played Menlo college last night at 6:30. The Wildcats are in the upper bracket. Dixie won the right to play in the tourney by copping third place in the Rocky Mountain conference, defeating Snow on Feb. 22 by a score of Dixie took an early lead over the Badgers, but the gap was closed to within one point as the half ended. After that it was a real battle, with Snow forging ahead, only to see the Flyers on top as the final gun barked. Weber won easily over Dixie on Feb. 21, though the Flyers gave the Wildcats a real scare for more than half of the contest. Sixteen teams from Louisiana to California are participating in Western States the Tourney. Its like the old melodramas shown in Utah in the early days, but it also has a modern flavor of good comedy and mystery. The Black Flamingo, by Sam an historical play with setting at the beginning of the French revolution. A deserted castle, about a days journey from Paris, is made into an inn. But the patrons who come there are In fact, one certainly unusual. stormy night, while a man was standing by the huge fireplace of the inn but wait and see for yourself on April 9 and 10. On Monday, March 3, the play was discussed; tryouts will be held this afternoon at 3:30. There are four parts for women and nine fr men, and each part is a challenge-to the one who gets it. The stage settings will be new and different. Some of the schools outstanding talent will interpret the numbers, and that talent includes: Jo and Spence Reber (in an original number of Chamberlain Ramona course) (at the piano); Valera Hafen (in a leotard); Audrey Paxman (the Put The Blame On Marne girl); Pinky Worthen (and his theme-song- ) ; Tony Cutruzzula, Sandy Sandstrom, Joan George, and yes); Wayne Holt (in a dance-bu- t sax and a Clairon Williams bow-ti; Sharlene Snow, Gai and Joyce Bithell (in a trio Graff, that used to be a quartet); andd (those glamorous aspirant girls) Sylvia Jones. Jeannine Harris, Georgia Prisbrey, Beverly Moody, Jessie Anderson, Nancy us, Nesbitt, and Beverly Baldwin-plas always, Paul Thompson and Pauline Hafen accompanying. Promising, isnt it? The Hurricane high exchange program of Feb. 21 was something to remember. ; e) (a Zieg-fiel- JUNIOR PROM SET FOR MARCH 2 ; THEME IS A SECRET 1 More help is being enlisted for the Junior Prom, since the date has been set for March 21. Lights burn all hours of the night in the Rec hall, and everyone is getting acquainted with chicken wire the hard way wrapping it around poles. The theme is still the big secret, which could mean anything from Orchids in the Moonlight White Christmas. By way of subtle hint, Margaret Ann still would like a few more class fees turned in. Snow Attends Meet President Snow is in Atlantic City, New Jersey, attending a meeting of the officers of the National Education Association and sessions of the American Administrators conference. President Snow is a candidate for president of the N. E. A., with the election to be held in July. 8. ed Dixie. The Dixie high school team is playing its last game of the season tonight at Parowan. So far the Flyers have not tasted of defeat in league competition this year, and are favorites to take the contest tonight by a fair margin. As champions of the Dixie division the Flyers will compete in the class B tourney on March 12-1- 5. The pairings for this meet will be made known on Sunday, March 9. Coach Stowell, after seeing the American Fork team play last week, was asked what chances he thought he had in the meet with his Dixie boys. much-publicis- He replied simply, I wouldnt trade my boys for those from American Fork.
