Show DEXEE MAY 1921 VOLUME VI. NUMBER suits D. N. C. Graduates Make Enviable Record The Dixie Normal College graduated this spring the larg- est Normal Class in the history of the institution. Forty students received the official parchment, eighteen of which were from the Normal Training Department. These students have now stepped into the ranks of the Alumni Association, an organization with a record for educational achievement believed to be unsurpassed by any similar organization in the entire West. Few schools in the State have had a more rapid growth. The school was founded eleven years ago under the name of the St. George Stake Academy ; the first graduating class receiving their Diplomas in 1913. In 1916 the institution was authorized by the Church to give two years of College work. In 1917 one year of the Normal training was given official recognition by the Utah State Board of Education. In 1918, only three years since, the school was accepted by the State Board of Education as an official Normal College authorized to give two years of College work leading to the Normal Diploma. Today the graduates of the Dixie Normal College are given the same recognition by the State Board of Education as the graduates of the Normal Department of the University of Utah. The Dixie Normal College has been given the mission of pre paring teachers for service in the schools of the State of Utah. The following figures will reveal whether, as an institution she is fulfilling her mission. Of the entire list of graduates since the foundation of the institution, including both High School and College 30.9 percent are at pres- Where the Dixie Normal College graduates are to be found. 30.9 percent Teaching. 27.2 percent In homes as Wives and Mothers. 13.1 percent Studying 5. in Higher Institutions. 5.7 percent In the Mission Field. 23.1 Percent all others. 100 percent. 53.3 percent of all Gradu- ates have at some time been engaged in the teaching profession. 44.2 percent have attended institutions, of learning. 8.7 percent have secured Degrees. ent in the school room as teachers, 27.2 percent are in homes as wives and mothers, 13.1 percent are still pursuing studies in higher institutions, 5.7 percent are in the mission field preaching the Gospel, while of all the graduates only 23.1 percent are engaged in other pur than those mentioned above. If we add to the percent now teaching those that have at some time taught we find that 53.3 percent of all of the Alumni members have at some time been in the teaching profession. Not only has the Dixie Normal College been preparing teach- ers to enter the elementary schools of the State, but a survey of the list reveals that 44.2 percent have attended other institutions of higher learning, while 8.7 percent have secured Degrees. Thus it will be observed that as an institution the Dixie Normal College is fulfilling her mission as a Normal Training School and that her students are also catching that inspiration that leads them into the higher institutions to prepare for service. Her graduates are yearly increasing and are taking their places in active life and are attaining success whether at home or in competition with the graduates of other institutions. The Dixie Normal College is proud of the record of her graduates. Dixie products are to be found in every institution of the State, and whereever they are found whether in higher institutions, in the school room, on the farm or in the Mission Field, they will be found to be clean, hardworking, and thorough. The Dixie Normal College sends out the Class of 1921 with a confidence, born of experience, that they will succeed. Let us then, be what we are, speak what we think, and in all things keep ourselves loyal to truth. |
