Show 12 The Dixie Owl, St. Ceorge, Utah not when all is running uninterrupted toward the goal of success, but when we are unexpectedly baffled, disheartened and utterly discouraged by a series of unforseen calamities, that arise omniously, and perturbably out of our peaceful course of progress. Such is our lot at the present time. We are staggering beneath the blow that so surreptitiously and suddenly immobilized our forces, and claimed by its ruthless hand our highly esteemed and beloved Leader. Yes we are still staggering beneath -- this cruel blow; but are we to fall into a state of intellectual lassitude because of our great loss? No! Thru the encouraging and guiding influence of our late leader, we learned the secret of success, and in due reverence to his immortal name, we as his students will (and indeed we must) face our ensuing tasks 'with renewed energy . We must work even more assiduously than ever to complete our present curriculum. However, thru the inspiration and heart felt sympathy of our Faculty, we will turn the calamities and discouragements of the past into honest endeavor and future success. Fellow Students, now that the test of all the pertinent qualities of true manhood and womanhood has come, let us prove ourselves worthy of the emulation of our late Leader, and cross the yawning chasm of indecision and discouragement onto the shining plains of true success. Time, the inexorable critic, leaves nothing except the intrinsically great and the essentially good. In easy learning germs of failure lurk He gains the key to all who learns to work. Elbow grease is warranted not to soil the hands. |
