Show THE DIXIE OWI THE FliESHIES Found: Sept. 17, 1919, some of the best products of the West scattered about the halls of the D. N. C. At the first, perhaps, one would see a timid, green little Freshie, gazing in consternation at the formidable walls of learning. Then, all of a sudden we ripened, and the thought dawned on us that we were the largest, most complete, and had a wonderful chance of making ourselves the best class in the school. As we were wandering about the regions of science and mathematics we found "Pa Hall in the laboratory and Ma Smith in the book store, and proudly displayed our catch to the rest of the school. With the help of these loving parents we quickly chose suitable colors, and proceeded to cram our brains with knowledge and our hearts with the spirit of a good time. It didnt take our lively amusement committee long after that to give the famous and elaborate affair up to Gardners residence which is known as the Freshie's Of course, that was only the beginFirst Party. ning of all things, and two or three weeks later found us climbing Mount Hope, with the intention of having a good time on the Sugar Loaf. Then, lo! and behold the "Flu bug spun its webs over the door of the D. N. C. and we entered no more for three months. Though this put a damper on our fun, our spirit still remained, and the Freshies became known to have the best display of masks in Utah. This spirit which simply bubbled over when we came back to school, resulted in Jeff, "The Daughters of Liberty, "Quit kickin My Dog around, and Letha with "Hind side before. Every one admits that the dance the Freshies gave was simply the ball of the season, and when our 9 penants came their green and white was greeted on all sides with exclamations of envy and admiration. As for D day it was simply a scream! Dear Pa, as baby bear, carried off the prize, and after that and "Jeff, we all agreed that Pa had mines of unAlso everyone simply developed fun in him. would have starved to death without the aid of our dear mother. Then followed the grand and marvelous occasion, the last First year party. People tried so hard to secure an invitation to this, for they had heard of the reputation of the Freshies. The affair was lively, as usual, being accompanied by beautiful music, a delicious lunch, and banners of green and white. We all agreed that we had the time of our lives. Soon came the track meet, and we all want to thank Jennie, who carried off the honors, for her splendid work, and to wish her success in the future. Soon we expect to give a fine piogram in Devotional, which is already talked of by the students who have experienced some of the wonderful talent in the Freshie class, having seen the work of our poetesses in the "Owl. Of course, in the contest of theology papers, which will be soon given, we expect to win out, as usual. Now that Commencement draws near we feel that we have kept true to our motto of "Wilby. Though, at the first we were green, we were determined that some day we would be ripe and full of wisdom, and we feel that we have reached that stage. However, we hope that next year will find us still Wilbys trying to make a name for ourselves and the D. N. C. and, then, when we become "Whiteheaded we can, at least say that we "have been.
