Show QUARTERLY conference despite the busy season the at tend enco at the quarterly conference ol of the box elder stake which convened in this city on saturday last was very satisfactory the saturday meetings were marked by the presence of and souls respectively there were present on the stand besides president oleen olean N stohl and counselors and members of the high council president francis M lym an of the quorum of apostles and I 1 dent rulon S wells of the first counell council of seventy at the opening session of the conference president lyman requested the bishops of the various wards to follow president oleen N stohl in telling what troubles are met with in the way of keeping the spirituality of the people up to standard and that was complied with except in two cas es the bishops being absent summed up the reasons given by the abe president and bishops was that t the he people dont seem to be thoroughly thorough converted to the work lork there is not that same loyalty as there used to be god iras has so abundantly blessed the people with the things of the world that they feel it requires all their time to take care of the blessings leaving no time to work tor for his cause figuratively speaking the speakers were admonished by president lyman to say nothing of the good side of the stake aud and wards but simply tell of the difficulties and shortcomings and the speakers were clearly non however the exer exercises els developed a wonderful field of thought and demonstrated the necessity of energetic work on the part of the officers A splendid cold lunch had been prepared by tie the relief society for the con gre gation and tables had been provid ed under the trees on the tabernacle grounds the gentle tain rain which began falling during the exercises made it necessary to shift the scene of serving refreshments to the central school and while the committee committe ewas was making ready an impromptu musical program was tendered in the tabernacle at the afternoon services reports were made by the heads of the var ious aux auxiliary Tillary organizations and prof whitaker outlined the work of the choristers cho and organists department which w will be organized in the near future remarks were made by presidents 1 A snow W C horsley rulon S wells and F id HI lyman the visiting brethren gave splendid counsel along the line of waking up the people to a full sense of their position as latter day saints between speakers elders isaac H and C elias jensen sang our mountain home the singing at both these sessions as idone done by the congregation gre gation on sunday morning the tabernacle was ati all but filled by 1200 children and their parents the usual first hour was occupied by the sunday schools in rendering a prepared program of songs class exercises and remarks president lyman occupied the balance of the time discoursing upon the theme the sacrament of the lords supper I 1 I 1 because of the serious illness b t his hia mother president oleen oien N stohl was unable gable 11 to attend any of t the meetings on sunday j there were souls present at the afternoon session president L ia A snow was in chargo charge of the services 1 which began by the choir singing the anthem in our redeemers name prayer was offered by bishop seeley ot of rosette alter after which the choir sang the anthem rouse 0 ye mortals president W C horsley pr presented scented the general and local authorities ori ties but before the list was read a number of 0 releases were given giren workers on some of the auxiliary boards the vacancy in the high council caused by the death of the late peter I 1 F madsen was filled by the appointment of elder C M jensen the first alternate ternate and elder anthon at han J i sen principal of the whittler cr school ot of this city was made an alternate I 1 high councilor all the officials were unanimously sustained the speakers were elders wells I 1 land and lyman the first named dis als coursed upon the death rate of the box elder stake for the first six i months of the year showing that this stake tar far exceeds the church in the i i number of deaths tos fag the same period i he then went on to speak of diseases spiritual moral and physical showing the relationship between them and pointing out the great danger from contamination especially from the spiritual and moral diseases mother dear composed by prof 0 A whitaker supervisor of music of box elder county was rendered by victor E madsen adsen Nf and the male members of the choir president lyman discoursed on the measure of a man as paul gave it reading from the text test in 1 timothy 3rd ard chapter he enlarged upon what paul said a bishop should be to make the injunction fit every son and daughter of god for said he no man or woman can violate the commands of god and be held blameless in closing his sermon president lyman urged that the teachers in the church be teaching men if they are not gifted that way naturally they should acquire that gift and then go to and instruct the people in all righteousness thi the closing song was the anthem overthrow of gog and magog bishop D P burt pronounced the benediction the evening services were under the direction of the mutual improvement associations and were marked by the splendid singing of the willard choir under the direction of miss lottie owen them the choir canie came up lif ill full force over sixty aty strong and they sang five or six numbers in faultless manner showing the thorough work they have done in reher sels seIs and the splendid leadership of miss owens remarks were made by suits E P horsley and eliza thompson president J B mathias of the first ward association and president rulon S wells who took for his topic purity of life glory to god was sung as a quartette by dr R T willey isaac H jensen victor it madsen and C elias jensen |
