The Salt Lake Tribune But so many people have come up to me saying ‘we were afraid it was going to be a rock show but we loved it We liked the variety”’ Boyd is looking forward to spending Christmas at the new lakeside home she shares with boyfriend Joel Bell one of Canada's leading economic analysts before taking the band on a US tour in January Bell was an advisor to former Ca- nadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau another Boyd admirer "Pierre and I are ancient history now so I don’t mind talking about it" Boyd says "We dated secretly for six years He was my boyfriend and noIt’s so body ever really found out nice now with Joel we can be open with our relationship" But Boyd’s first love remains the guitar In February she plans to return to the classical stage with a solo tour of India "I don’t think you could crossover (to pop) so easily with other instruments” she says “A lot of rock musicians come to my shows Maybe they don't like the classical music so much but they like the technique There is something about guitar Somehow it links us all” Fine Arts University ot Utah rompjs Sunday 3pm Free University ol Utah Music Department s Christmas Festival Klngsbuiy Mall U of U compos Sunday 8pm Tickets S3 S2 Salt Lake Children's Choir and Ralph Woodward Chorale Christmas conceit Cathedral of the Madeleine 331 E South Temple Sunday 7 30 pm Free Christmas Chorus Utah State Hospital Chapel 1300 East Center Piovo Sunday 6 pm "Messiah Smg-ln- " Austad Auditorium Browning Center Weber State College Ogden Sunday 8pm Holldoy concert Bountiful Davis Art Center 2175 S Main Bountiful Sunday 4pm USU Christmas Spectacular Kent Conceit Hall Chose Center Utah State University Logan Sunday 7 pm Black 'n Blue with Saxon haid rock Salt Palace Exhibition Hall Sunday 7pm Pep Peters Quartet azz Painted Word 401 S 400 West Sunday Mel Hall Band with the Great Dane Karen Thomsen contemporary music Trolley Square Amphitheatre Sunday 2 to 4 pm Belairs rock Zephyr 301 S West Temple Sunday 9 pm Stanyon Sheet 255 E 400 South Friday and Saturday 9 pm Vicki Veltn Quartet azz D B Cooper's 10 E 200 South Monday 8 30 p m midnight Dave Mason pop Zephyr 30 S West Temple Monday 9 pm Lorry Morton electronic keyboard Bees-le- y Music 1760 S 1100 East Tuesday 730 pm Free Workshopdemonshatlonon mu slcal education with keyboards ond comput ers 10 a m Steve Oldroyd pianist Player's Lounge Sheraton Hotel 255 S West Temple Tues day 5 to 9 p m New Spam rock Zephyr 301 S West Tern pie Tuesday 9 pm “New Sounds for Christmas" new Christ mas music by Utah composers Steinway Holl 156 S Main Wednesday 730 p nv Sponsored by the Composers Guild "Amahl and the Night Visitors" Opera West Sprlngvllle High School Auditorium Wednesday through Saturday 8 pm Tick ets $5 S3 or $15 tor family pass Spaces rock and blues Zephyr 301 S West Temple Wednesday 9 p m The Meet Ing Place 6061 S State Thursday through Saturday 8 30 pm Bop Street Zephyr 301 S West Temple Thursday ond Friday 9 pm Amnesia Duo original contemporary lozz Harvey's 206 S West Temple Thursday 8 pm to midnight Handel's “The Messiah" Ralph Wood ward Chorale Ralph Woodward conducting Assembly Holl Temple Square Friday 730 p m Free USU Chorole Christmas Concert Gerald Ottlev conducting Logan Tabernacle Fri- day 8 8 "Soturdoy's Voyeur" Salt Loke Acting 2 ond 7 through Saturot 8 26 27 31 Jan day and Dec p m Dec 14 2 2 Jan 4 at 7 p m Matinees Dec 14 21 28 2 pm Tickets $12 50 to $25 "The Effect of Gamma Rays on Marigolds" Performing Arts Center 269 S State Sunday and Friday Saturday and Dec 14 8 pm Presented by Performing Arts Company formerly the Players Tickets S5 $4 seniors free "A Christmos Carol" Hale Center Theater 2801 S Main Mondays through Saturdays through Dec 23 8 p m Matinees Saturdays pm continues pm Free "You Might As Well Live" The Painted Word 401 S 400 West Tuesday Wednesday Thursdov 730 p m Also Saturday at midnight "Scrooge" Promised Valiev Playhouse 5 2 pm 30 Monday ot the Movies "Beauty ond the Beast" Salt Loke City Public Ubrorv 209 E 500 South 2 ond 7 pm Thursday Dec 11 "Pioneer Profiles Christmos” Museum of Church History ond Art 45 N West Temple 7 p m museum docents recoil early pioneer Christmas activities In the Salt Loke Valley Continues Frldoy Dec 16017 7 p m “Laser Jon" loser show Hansen Planetarium 15S State 8 45 pm Continues Saturday 315 p m Friday Dec 12 Kitchen Chemistry Children's Museum of Utah 840 N 300 West 3 pm Admission 50e "Loser Zeppelin" loser show to the music of Led Zeppelin Hansen Plonetarlum 15 S State 8 45 ond 10 p m Continues Saturday Saturday Dec 13 "Holiday Under Wraps" moke your own wrapping poper Children's Museum of Utah 840 N 300 West 3 pm Admission 50c "Sky Pirates" star show for young children Honsen Planetarium 1 5 S State 1 1 a State Tuesdovs through Saturdays 8 pm Matinees Dec 13 20 through Dec 20 -
