Show 10S Sunday, February 9, 1986 The Salt Lake Tribune, Build it yourself with patterns The home workshop Replace that old sink or toilet using new flexible supply lines by Larry Eisinger MANY HOMEOWNERS ARE of fearful and justifiably so replacing an old sink or toilet because of the plumbing involved in connecting the necessary supply lines. Not too many years ago this was a chore that required expertise and tools to cut the supply pipe to the exact length. Since the pipe was rigid there was little room for error. We now have adjustable drain traps that take the work out of a waste line hookup and we also have four basic types of flexible connecting supply lines. All will do the job at a price far less and infinitely faster than the old rigid threaded pipe type. The plain inch O.D. (outside diameter) chrome plated tube (A) which is also the same size as inch copper tubing, is soft enough to permit a slight bend but often flattens out if the bend is too severe. The tendency to flatten out at the bending point, which will restrict the flow of water, is virtually eliminated if your use corrugated tubing (B). Plastic is making a -- very notable contribution to plumbing systems and the very flexible polybutylene supply line connectors (C) is the most economical connector, costing substantially less than any of the copper tubing types. Remember you can use polybutylene for hot and cold water lines.
