has graduated from the US Air Force aircraft maintenance course at Sheppard Air Force Base Texas During the course students were taught aircraft maintenance fundamentals to repair and service one-ane jet aircraft Maintenance and management documentation was also taught to assess aircraft readiness capability Mr Pearce is a 1984 graduate of Cyprus High School Airman Cory R Morgan son of Mr and Mrs Robert B Morgan Sandy has graduated from the US Air Force plumbing specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base Texas Graduates of the course were taught to install and maintain water supply and pipe distribution systems Mr Morgan is a 1981 graduate of Brighton School Army Spec 4 Jay C Pyon son of Insun Yi Sandy has participated in “Team Spirit '87” a Republic of d KoreaUnited States Combined Forced Command sponsored exer-cis- e held in South Korea “Team Spirit ’87” is an annual series of combinedjoint field training exercises staged to increase the defensive posture of the Republic of professional career in 1981 when a tragic accident on the vault left her paralyzed from the waist down After spending two weeks in a Florida intensive-care unit she was flown home to spend five months at University Hospital in the rehabilitation unit "I was really motivated as a gymnast" Ms Ellingson said “I was an achiever I knew I could overcome the accident whether it meant being able to walk again or having to deal with my life as it is" Since the accident she has earned a degree in elementary education and Is teaching first grade at Rolling Meadows Elementary School in West Valley Other than an occasional test Ms Ellingson is finished with her therapy Living alone now she acquired the skills to become independent while attending a self-car- e therapy session two years ago It was this type of devotion to rehabilitation that won Ms Ellingson the 1987 Ms Wheelchair Utah title Ms Ellingson will act as a spokeswoman and advocate for the disabled in Utah “My job is to raise the awareness level of people toward the disabled and to take steps toward a more barrier-free society” she said Ramps curb cuts in the road lower phones and drinking fountains are a few examples she would like to see “You see more improvements nowadays because the awareness level is going up" Ms Ellingson said Not only did Ms Ellingson help lead the Lady Utes to their first national collegiate gymnastic title in 1981 she was also a three-tim- e Going from a talented gymnast to a student in a wheelchair was a difficult transition but a combination of strong will and boredom from watching television convinced her to return to school “I wasn’t strong enough to do much more than watch TV but I could sit in class” Ms Ellingson said “I figured instead of wasting away I could finish my degree I was really fortunate to have chosen a major I could stay in” she said Returning to the university as a senior was hard for Ms Ellingson who hadn't seen many of her friends and teammates since the accident “It was so difficult going from an athlete to a paraplegic” Ms Ellingson explained "It was awful The accident was really hard on my gymnastic friends and it was hard for me to identify
