Show BISHOP brigham city has lol sue cue of its best citizens re moika a gentleman who has haa not resided in this city five years when hen lie he heard of the death of bishop mcmaster Ale Alaster cr yesterday morning that sentiment is re echoed by practically every individual in this community who knew the bishop for all those who ever came under his influence loved him from the first contact and he had no enemies death claimed bishop mcmaster tuesday night about eleven after lie he had bad lain for a few weeks in his bed it at home gradually slipping from this earth in fact bishop Ms master Is ter h has as not been the same since the terrible tragedy which took ills his son and daughter from this sphere OZ of action a few few years ago seventy years of age and aid having lived a strenuous life all his days his vitality was not sufficient to recover from that shock which brought the added responsibility of business care that had been largely assumed by his son thomas and life since that time has been full of worries and cares which eventually wore were this good man completely out of 0 it a natural quiet disposition well balanced in his make up bishop me alc master alaster would undoubtedly have lived on for a great many years yet had bad he been spared the experience referred to above which virtually took the heart out of 0 him for in all ills his long I 1 and strenuous life he has hag been temperate lit in his living clean careful and the very soul of 0 honor never subjecting his physical bein being to those ex cx W th and 7 iia shorten ren life he was as a man who believed 1 it better to wear out than rust out and was never idle but did each day the duty it brought to him in his passing passin brigham city and box elder county loses indeed one of their best citizens for lie he was a man mail who has ever been prominently identified with th up building of these commonwealths and he was never too occupied with private affairs to prohibit him froin becoming actively interested lit in the welfare of this city and county bishop mcalaster Mcl ic Nl laster aster was one of tile the pioneer businessmen of this city in 1887 lie ho and mr J 11 II forsgren entered into a partnership and established a lumber and hardware store since that time tile the bishop has engaged in this business and only a I 1 few months ago disposed of 0 his lumber interests in order to lighten the burden that he was carrying ile he was a carpenter by profession and many homes in this city stand as monuments to his skill in that line not only as a merchant has he been prominent but he has held positions ot of civic trust in this city and county ile ho has served as county treasurer chairman of the board of county commissioners ners and city councilman serving in the last named position at the time of his death ile he filled a mission to scotland in 1895 6 and upon his re turn was ordained bishop of the first ward which position he held until february 28 1909 it was during hla his labors as bishop of the ward that this good man endeared himself especial ly to the members of that ward tor for there was never any trouble that cams came to any member of the ward that he was not there to lend help and sympathy in his business dealings hs be was honor personified and would rath er suffer wrong that resort to any questionable methods in making maklin a salo sale or consummating a deal john B mcmaster was born august 17 1843 1841 in Dum ferline scotland ills his parents became converted to boulam la in their native land in 1840 and emigrated to utah in 1854 the family located in salt lake city and john B mcmaster worked at his profession na as a carpenter until 1859 1969 when continued on page six BISHOP MASTER GIVES UP STRUGGLE continued from first page pace he came to brigham city lie he con tinned working at his profession and constructed many homes in this city ile he also I 1 too took k a prominent part in tho the erection of the first wa ward rd meeting house bouse and the stake tabernacle on december 27 1869 bishop me alc master married miss elizabeth forrest of this city and four children were born to them only one of whom survives the mother died in 1883 and three years later the bishop married his present wife who was a sister to his bis first wife and three cl children ildren were born to thea one verna being one of the victims of the double tragedy funeral services will be held in the tabernacle tomorrow Fi fildey Fil day iday at 2 p in and the remal remains n s will lie in state at the family home in the morning anil and up to the time of departure for the funeral services |
