I I 1 r Perhaps the question most frequently asked in regard to the Mammoth Reservoir r enterprise is Is there enough water to fill the reservoir after it is completed It is is impossible impossible impossible sible at this time to say just how much water there is is as asno asno no measurements have yet been taken but there is data enough at hand to give an au idea of possibilities of the scheme so far as the water question is concerned t r Last fall a committee of prospective stockholders was sent ent up to examine the site with a view of determining what prospect there was of filling the reservoir The committee t found after a careful investigation that the water shed which drained into the was nine miles in length by six miles in width making an area area of over two thirty-two thousand acres Covering this vast area there is now an anc c average of eight feet of snow It is a ridiculously low r estimate to bay ay that the eight feet teet of snow will make one 4 foot foot oot of water and yet at that rate the water supply will equal almost ten thousand acres more moie than the company is figuring on OD J This estimate is based upon the snow alone and makes no no o account of the numerous small streams and springs the waters y of which will be impounded the greater part of the year year 1 The attorney for the company company has made all the necessary sa sary ry appropriations ns and this work has been accomplished j- j j so t a as not to interfere with any existing right light to the water Mammoth Reservoir i f The water meeting called at the W Y Tabernacle l last st Saturday afternoon afternoon afternoon after- after E noon by the directors of the Mammoth Mammoth Mam- Mam l moth Re Co was well attended attended at ut- tended and the interest displayed I by the citizens was a splendid augury augury augury au au- gury for the future future of this section It was plainly manifested that everyone thoroughly realized the fact that the responsibility for the future w welfare of the community rests rest upon his own shoulder and that success in the matter mattel depends i upon action while the opportunity t ty is at hand 4 r rf Engineer O O. Young oun was present present pres- pres ent and answered many important x I questions in a very satisfactory i m manner manner He Ho is greatly encouraged encouraged aged e over the prese present t outlook and c inspires everyone with the confidence confidence r J dence that he feels While it is impossible for him to give exact figures at the present stage of the work it is evident that his estimations estimations estimations estima estima- are arc very conservative and andy I y the tho preponderance of chances are arc much in favor of their belD being too high rather than too low Mr Young is one of the best engineers in the Utah if not in the West He Ho has a reputation at stake which makes it to his interest to be careful careful careful care care- ful and conservative It is plain to be seen that an under estimate would be bo more detrimental to tol his i reputation as as' asan an en engineer incer l W than an over estimate and as a I consequence the chances are aie pro proportionately proportionately proportionately pro pro- in favor of the latter There is no question but that his estimates form a sound basis Mr Murray solicitor for the company in n response to an invitation invitation invitation tion by Chairman made a avery avery avery very interesting talk on the subject subject subject sub sub- of storage in which he cited to the audience several instances instances instances in in- stances where better results had been procured at considerable less expense than had been anticipated by the stockholders stockholder or estimated by the e engineer Nephi Nephi Record Mammoth Reservoir Manti citizens who wha own land cross the river will WIn make a great mistake if they fail to secure an interest in the Mammoth l Reservoir Reservoir Reservoir Reser Reser- voir proposition The water right in this company can bo he had at a alow alow alow low price and its use upon the theland theland theland land mentioned will greatly increase increase in in- crease the value of both the land lan land and the water The water should be bo be kept in Sanpete county and Manti needs it as bad or worse than any other town The Juab county people ar are are alive to The They have subscribed liberally for the stock and are very enthusiastic over the prospects At a meeting in 10 Nephi N last Saturday about share share- I Continued on last page Mammoth Reservoir Continued from fifth p page pago go holders were present and they gave the engineer and officers of the tho company a unanimous vote of confidence Engineer Young states that his work so far establishes the fact that tho the scheme is practicable even if the amount of water stored is only l acres instead of which which is expected to be he stored Mr Young is a n very conservative conservative conservative conserva conserva- tive man and ho he is intensely interested interested interested in in- in the success of the en t His assurance that it is ie practicable will encourage age many to subscribe for stock who have been backward in the tho matter Manti Messenger |
