The County Commission met Wednesday morning wilh the county sheriff, auditor, clerk and attorney to discuss Hie luture of the paramedic service, which has been become an endangered program us the county tightens the vise on its budget. Following tiie meeting. Commissioner Harry B. Gerlach said officials agreed to let voters decide whether they want the program or not. A formal resolution setting the exaet date of lute winter referendum should he forthcoming in the next week, lie said. Separate Mill Levy? Commissioner Gerlach said voters will also be asked to decide if the program should bo funded by a separate property tax mill levy, similar to special levies now assessed to fund the county library system and flood control projects. He said removing the paramedics from the general fund would guarantee the revenue needed to fund the service. "If it remains in the general fund, it may not continue. We may not he able to afford it." he said.
