Also he refrain must from making negative remarks unless asked specific questions. Here is the example he quoted to help me understand the nature of his enterprise: You order carpeting p satisfaction. You then call my friend, the public agitator. He comes to your home and takes photographs of the rotten job by XYZ. He nails the pictures to a placard and walks in front of XYZ Co. all day long. Of course, this creates considerable attention. It also lets people know what kind of job the firm does. I say the guy is bananas. He says what he plans to do is perfectly legal. Ten dollars rides on your reply. Patchogue, N.Y. Dear Patch: The First Amendment is alive and well. It guarantees all citizens the right of free speech. This right, however, is not transfer- able. The wronged person may parade in front of the carpet shop and express his displeasure at the lousy job, but he may NOT pay another individual to parade for him. So, your friend may not be bananas, but he may run into the law if he expects to go into the business of harassment by proxy. (Send the $10 to the Girl Scouts. They got a bum break this year.) Dear Ann Landers: My father is only 70. Until recently he was active, and extremely alert, pleasant to be around. We have all noticed, however, that he has be- come increasingly forgetful. Last week he asked me to help him put on his trousers. He said, "I Nuptial McConnell - Schutzenhofer Lt. j.g. (U.S. Navy) Theresa A. McConnell and Lt. Cmdr. (U.S. R. Labels are considered the last advertisement you see before you buy a prod- uct. In the past, though, clothing labels have not been able to agree on the exact wording for use and care labels. Since January of this year, garments and certain pieces of cloth to more strict and uniform label laws, according to Dr. Vera Keeble, USU Extension clothing and textiles specialist. Some specific labeling requirements include: If the garment is washable, the label must state whether it should be washed by hand or machine. The label must also provide washing method instructions and the water temperature to be used. If regular use of hot water will not harm the garment, the water temperature is not required on the label. Care labels must state whether the product should be dried by machine or some other method. When machine drying is specified, drying temperature must be included unless the hottest setting will not harm the product. Altrusa Club installs officers aware of the program. The program is helpful in a crisis time. It also offers a sense of security to the elderly and their families. The vials are plastic syringe cases that are usually discarded. They are donated by the Veterans Administration Hospital for the project. Gold Cross Ambulance Co. donated stickers printed in red to be applied to the outside of the refrigerator to indicate that a vial of life has been wired on an inside shelf. Vials are available from health care and aging agencies in the city or they can be obtained from Altrusa members. Other officers are Sandra Feldt, vice president; Linda Miller, re- cording secretary; Katie Cisneros, correspond- ing secretary; and Mrs. Grace Frandsen, treasurer. Ironing instructions must be given if ironing is needed to preserve the products appearance. An ironing temperature must also be included unless the hot iron setting will not harm the product. If all bleaches may be safely used, the label need not mention bleaching. If only bleaches may be used, the label must specify this. If all bleaches are harmful to the product, the label must specify no bleach. On items that cannot be washed or cleaned in consumer operated dry cleaning machines, the label must read Professional Dry Clean non-chlori- Only. Keeble says it is important that you read labels to help select garments, but also to keep them in top condition once they are home. Not following the use and care instruction on the label is a way of Voiding your warranty, she says. If you dont follow the instructions, and try to return a damaged garment you will have no recourse, Keeble says. Lt. Cmdr. and Lt. Schutzenhofer were married June 9 in the Fort Douglas Chapel. I spoke with the friend at length yesterday and it sounds as if my father is also a victim. What can you tell me about this disease and what should I do? Frightened And Distressed In N.Y. Dear N.Y.: I am not a physician and even if I were, I would not attempt to make a diagnosis in the mail. Your fathers condition sounds suspiciously like Alzheimers. If such is the case, he is one of 3 million Americans who is affected by this problem. Alzheimers is senility, but it sometimes affects people of middle age. At this moment, neither the cause nor the cure is known. Take your father to a competent neurologist. I suggest also that you educate yourself. Write to: Alzheimers Disease Association, 360 N.
