Show The chessloarl The Salt LaU Tribune Robert Hales, K.C. Holmes win high sehool chess crowns By Craig Madsen Robert Hales of Spanish Fork and K.C. Holmes of Timpview won the 1984 Utah high school chess champi6Mi-onships by scoring near-perfe- marks. These two youngsters won their first five games; drew each other in round six; and then won their seventh and final game for the title. Hales just narrowly defeated Holmes on the second (!) set of for the trophy. Hales was the defending champion. J.B. Akert of Woods Cross was the only player undefeated after six rounds, but a loss to Holmes in the finale cost him the title. Also scoring six points was Steve Holmes of Timpview and David Evans of Cyprus. Dixie Hemingway of Kearns scored a very impressive This score won her the top female award, "1st E, and 14th overall. Her brother Marc placed 18th. Woods Cross High won the overall team title on over Timpboth scoring 26 points. Interview mountain Indian Academy won the 1A2A team title with 13 points.
