"We re going to be prepared this time," McColl said of a possible strike. In the past when we've been forced to strike its been haphazard But it won't be this time. McColl said demands made by the Nevada Resort Association have sparked an angry response from Culinary workers. The organizations four-yea- r contract expires April 1. The union includes a wide range of hotel and restaurant employees, but not casino workers. A strike would have a horrendous effect on our industry and the entire community, McColl said. I don't think people would come here if they knew they would have to go through picket lines of angry people." Asked if he was threatening violence, McColl replied "No, I just think it's going to be very McColl said negotiators for the hotel owners did not cover money issues in five days of bargaining last month. He said the NRA set the next negotiations for Feb. 21. McColl said proposals by the NRA include reducing the guaranteed workweek to as few as eight hours, eliminating work classification protection, taking away two holidays, cutting overtime rates, reducing guaranteed gratuities from 17 percent to 15 percent and eliminating present requirements of two consecutive days off. "Theyve misread their employees, thinking they're going to accept some of this garbage, McColl said "Were not going to go back 50 years Wage and Insurance Package McColl said the union would be asking for an improved wage and insurance package, but hedged on a figure. He said they would ask for more than the 16 percent which members of the Teamsters and Operating Engineers received when they settled with the NRA last year. The union leader said employees spend their money in Las Vegas while hotel owners make money off their properties, then pour it into new ventures in Reno, Laughlin, Nev., and Atlantic City. McColl said the 17 resorts negotiating through the NRA have signed a pact not to bargain with the union' separately. He said any owners who try to negotiate independently with the union would forfeit $750,000 each of the resorts have posted with the Airport Improvement Plans Approved Three Utah community airports se Federal Aviation Administration and some from the local communities.
