So report two Stanford University researchers, Samuel Gross and Robert Mauro. who studied FBI data on more than 17.000 homicides in eight states from 1976 to 1980. Their research shows that a victim's race is more important than a murderers race in influencing who gets the death sentence. The data. they say. show a clear pattern of discrimination against suspects of either race whose victims are white. There are two possible explanations, they suggest, for this type of prejudice: ) The ( majority of jurors, like the majority of Americans, are white and may identify less with black than with w hite murder victims. (2) In our society, the life of a black may be valued less than the life of a white. 1 Win The station and its signs are the leading tourist attraction in Llanfair in northwest Wales.
