With a whoosh and a roar, the copter gracefully lifted off the meadow, rotors smoothly spinning as pilot Jim Barker guided the twin jet engine machine up and over the snowy peaks Only a few years ago, hikers would have been unable to experience the brilliant highs of these 10,000-fomountains, unless they g were expert powder skiers under the direction of Hans Gmoser and Leo Grillmair, two tranplanted Austrians, has been going on in the Bugaboos, the Cariboos, and Bobbie Burns, since 1964, when Gmoser built his first mountain lodge at Bugaboo, and brought 40 powder skiers by helicopter.
