Show PASSES AWAY william neeley formerly gormerly lor merly of tilts this city passed away at his home in neel edville oy ey ville idaho last friday morning from general debility and a very active life came to an end mr air neeley was one 0 of f the pioneers of this city not one of the first to arrive but one of the early settlers who helped to lay jay the foundation of the commonwealth and who yaa was prominently identified with the roith for or many years thereafter william neeley was born in wisconsin august 1830 lie he became converted to mormonism early in life and journeyed to utah in 1850 ile he lived there tor for a few years cars then came to Brig brigham liam city in 55 and made his home here until 1870 while a rest resident of 0 this city he was one of the foremost citizens in all public movements and lor for years vas nas one of that band of immortals who cheered the hearts ot of the people with the inspiring music ot of the fife and drum grandfather neeley was leader of the martial band for some years and after had moved away tile the organic org organization aniz alie ahe v get tog together gether often when ho he came back to visit his first family and the members would make music as they did of yore lie ile served as constable ot of this city also for a term or two to and was closely associated with president lorenzo snow and the men whom he bad about him in beginning the work of building a city here in ill 1870 brother neeley mover over to dear bear river city and was made op the first bishop of that ward in which capacity lie he for ten years ile he had two families and wid his second family he moved up into the riv country near amen can falla e t a horns homs and afterwards built a city which was named after him neeleyville Neele lie ile ser ed as bishop of that ward nvard tor for twenty years and was released on account of the influence of father time ills his first wife mary ciavash neeley a woman whom everybody loved that knew her died in this city many years ago after being sorely afflicted with a trouble in her knee for a number of years his second wife christena nelson survives her husband as do a great many children and grand children in tact fact beside his wite wife brother neeley has 11 14 children 67 grand children 36 16 great grand children and I 1 great great g grand rand child ills remains brought to this city sunday evening accompanied by his sons amos and peter after services had been held in tho the afternoon at neeleyville Neele and on monday afternoon very impressive services were b held eld in the third ward chapel which was well filled with old friends and the family of the departed pioneer there were many beautiful floral tributes on the white casket and on the pulpit and the spirit of 0 the services was one of 0 peace and inspiration bishop david P burt presided and made a few remarks in which he exi pressed pleasure in the bringing home of the man who had helped to found brigham city others who spoke were elder adolph madsen bishop lars V johnson of bear river city bishop ac K 11 II fridal of elwood both of whom were boys when brother neeley presided in dear bear river city and who had been influenced through life by his teachings elder E A box and prest dent oleen N stohl the musical numbers sang by the choir were tho the hymns when first the glorious light ot of truth resting it if you could tile hie to dolob and now let Us rejoice the prayers were offered by president james olsen and bishop J C cutler the sp spirit arit ot of the services was not that ot of mourning but rather of rejoicing lor for the faithful life gone to its ita reward and many were the beautiful tributes continued Contin oed on page three ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES AWAY 1 continued from fired page paid the character of the deceased decease ed two of the speakers referred to the testimony molly which he bore concerning the prophet joseph smith whom he knew intimately and of the meeting at which he was present when joseph turned to ills his brethren of the twelve sitting on the stand and said 1 I have delegated to you the keys and authority to carry on this work A great many relatives were anere present from rota distant points to attend the services 1 among them being his sons amos and peter neeley neeleyville Neele Neeley vIlIe idaho parley neeley a halt half brother of salt lake lewis neeley a brother and his wife also of salt lake austin drown brown of ogden and other members of the family residing in this county A large cortege accompanied ther the remains to their last resting place in the cemetery |
