Is Real Hot Issue '0 0 Bonelcco POE1K LOIN BONELESS PORK t For Roy Turner and other backers of Granite Park's annexation to South Salt Lake, fire protection isnt a hot issue. But it is to Sait Lake County commissioners and South Salt Lake Mayor Jim Davis. They see it as a key to other annexations across the valleys central corridor. Were mainly concerned about our government . . . how close we are to the people mating the Mr. Turner explained decisions, Wednesday after a meeting with city and county officials. Both Want Job Simply put, each government feels it should provide fire protection to Granite Park, whether the area from 3300 to 3900 South between 300 700 East is annexed or mire warn, o w ir 010 o Ji - fc . & t- 4 & a Boneless BUTTERFLY V Hr a PORK CHOPS T3 $529 qj) T cunr not. County officials will outline their stand at Murrays next City Council meeting. Because the county's headquarters station at 3690 S. Main is so near, Commissioner Bart Barker contends it's only logical for county government to provide fire protection for Granite Park and a sprawling unincorporated area between South Salt Lake and Murray. Why not contract with South Salt Lake for that protection? asks Mayor Davis. Agreements might give the county half of the sales tax collected in Granite Park, he suggested. Money to Invest Thats money it could invest in a new station near 3900 South and 1100 East where commissioners and Public Works Director Donald G. Spencer acknowledge fire protec-- ( tion must be bolstered. Why would you take over a station in the middle of the unincorporated area in exchange for a tiny corner of annexation? Commissioner Barker quizzed. Do you really think annexations will stop there? the mayor responded, noting his office gets querries from property owners between Main and 300 East from 3300 to 3900 South who want to join the city. Other Queries In fact, the mayor said, hes had calls from property owners as far away as 1300 East inquiring about annexing into South Salt Lake . It would be difficult for South Salt Lake to annex Granite Park then give residents of the citys newest area the same level of services ib. 'ft Country Style XEnTlHED. SPARE RIBS! When people (nearby) see the services we provide (property owners from) Main to 300 East would annex and South Salt Lake would have the station. Extorter Flees k' 1 . Vi H With Sandy Banks Money Special to The Tribune A large amount of SANDY money was taken from the Sandy Branch, First Interstate Bank, 8766 S. State, Wednesday morning by a man who claimed to have the assistant managers son as a hostage. The man, wearing a fake mous-- ' tache and wig, entered the bank about 10 a.m. He said the boy would not be released until he (the man) got all the money in the bank, Sgt. Craig Watson, Sandy police, said. The bandit waited until several customers had left before entering. He put up several handmade signs on the doors indicating the bank was closed so he would not be interrupted, Sgt. Watson said. The money was taken from all the tills and the vault. It will take a couple of days to determine the loss, Sgt. Watson said. Following the extortion, the man left the bank and fled in a red van. The assistant manager called Sandy police and the elementary school where his son was safe in class. It is an extortion and not a robbery because no weapon was shown, Sgt Watson explained. 2 Meets to Show Networks Value Two regional meetings will de-- . monstrate Tuesday, (Nov. 16) the importance of the Utah Network of Cooperating Libraries, a system of resource sharing for libraries.
