| Show UTAH UNDER quarantine because of the prevalence of alfalfa weevil in somei some parts of tills state a quarantine has been raised against us by some of the adjoining states and in some cases that quarantine effects the shipping of almost elery kind of freight this fact was learned at much annoyance last week weck by I 1 mr F A woolley of garland who loaded a car with household effects and consigned to an arizona point the car left garland and went salt lake where the trouble began when the transfer was to be made from the 0 S L to the san pedro los angeles road these officials would not accept it because it was not accompanied by a certini cate from the county horticultural inspector giving it a clean bill of health the matter had to be taken up thru the state horticultural inspector who secured the release of the car and started it off on toe journey horticultural inspector carl isaacson B on called at the news office and stated that he had received a letter from the state board of horticulture in arizona advising him of the quarantine against utah and the proviso that all household effects must be accompanied by a certificate signed by the local inspector before they will be ad admit mittel teJ to the state the also stated that the arizona officials had bad not notified the agents at tile the various points on oil the railroad but had simply sent the warning to the inspectors throughout the state the garland a gent wits was not acquainted with the regulations ions so he accepted the shipment from mr air woolley and the salt lake route officials being acqua acquainted with the quarantine provisions refused to accept the shipment when it reached salt lake the local inspector knew nothing of the regulations either until after the car had been sent off so a whole peck of trouble arose because of the apparent loose methods of the arzona arazona officials any parties contemplating making shipment of anything from this state a and till especially dox box elder county count to arizona points would save a great deal of trouble by calling upon inspector isaacson and finding ou out it just jur t abat a hat their prerogatives are in the matter before the shipment is billed out |
