Show WHEAT AT $2.20 A BUSHEL. President Sets Price for 1917 Crop Upon Recommendation of Committee. Washington The standard price for the 1917 wheat crop will be $2.20 & bushel. President Wilson on August Au-gust 30 set this price upon the recommendation rec-ommendation of the special committee commit-tee of the food administration headed "by Dr. H. A. Garfield. The president stated that Herbert Hoover has no part in placing this price and has expressed ex-pressed no opinion upon it. The price, which is for No. 1 northern north-ern at Chiacgo, is below prices recently recent-ly recorded for cash transactions in the crop at Chicago. It Is put Into effect as an intermediate step between .the uncontrolled prices which have prevailed and the $2 price set for the 1918 crop in the food control bill. U. S. May Buy Entire Crop. The president declares this price will be rigidly adhered to by the food administration, which may purchase the entire crop, If necessary, and believes be-lieves that with the food administration's administra-tion's regulation of the whole wheat industry lower prices for flour and bread will result. The price differentials worked out by the food administration are : No. 1 dark red winter, $2.24; hard winter basic, 2.20; red winter basic, $2.20; yellow hard winter, $2.16; soft red winter, $2.18; dark northern spring, $2.24; red spring, $2.18; hump back, $2.10; amber drum, $2.24; durum basic, ba-sic, $2.20; red durum, $2.13; red walla, $2.13; hard white basic, $2.20; soft white, $2.18; white club, $2.16; No. 2 of each grade is 3 cents less ; No. 3, 6 cents less ; No. 4, 10 cents less. |
