Show Efforts for Railroad Will Be Vigorously Renewed Utah Railway Company will be Approached if D. & R. G. Fails to Consider Branch Line Favorably Far from giving up the Idea of get-dng get-dng a railroad through the valley, thereby assuring the building of a sugar su-gar factory somewhere in Emery or Carbon counties, the committee organized or-ganized last spring to work for this project is busy again with the intention inten-tion of working with never-ending leal until both are assured and under construction. A meeting of the joint Emery-Carbon Emery-Carbon Sugar Beet Growers executive committee, which is composed of C. E. Larson, chairman, A. Brinkerhoff, Peter Nielson, Joseph Austin, and C. R. Marcusen, was held at Castledale last Saturday, and the plans for a whirlwind campaign to get the road nere there formulated. An audience till be secured with the head officials ef the Denver & Rio Grande Company, Com-pany, the secretary of the committee having been designated to arrange for such an audience, and a big dele-fation dele-fation of public spirited men from the whole of Eastern Utah will then meet with the railroad officials and present the wants of the people of this section sec-tion in such a way as to allow of no evasion of the issue itself on the part of the road. A decisive answer will be asked for, and, if this is not forthcoming forth-coming in the affirmative, other interests in-terests will be approached. It seemed to be the concensus of o-pinion o-pinion that the D. & R. G. people should be ,the first to be approached u such a branch road as the one contemplated con-templated through the valley to the town of Emery will unquestionably be of more advantage to them than to other interests, but, if a satisfactory answer is not forthcoming from these people, the Utah Railway company, which is resuming the operation of the coal road from Mohrland to Pro-to, Pro-to, will be asked to continue the present pres-ent road ending at Mohrland on through the valley.. When interviewed inter-viewed on the subject by a Salt Lake Tribune representative, Salt Lake officials of-ficials of the Utah Railway company expressed themselves as unprepared to say what they would do as the matter mat-ter had not been presented to them as yet, but it was intimated that, if sufficient suf-ficient business to warrant an extension exten-sion could be shown, and proper inducements in-ducements were offered, the branch probably would be constructed. It will be remembered that a strenuous stren-uous campaign was waged last spring u order to secure pledges for the 7000 acreB of beets in Emery and Carbon counties, getting which the Utah-Idaho Sugar company contracted to build a sugar factory if the D. & R. G. would build a branch road through the valley. The acreage was secured, with BOO acres to the good, thanks to the splendid way in which the farmers and business men of the two counties responded to the appeals of the committee, com-mittee, but the railroad people professed pro-fessed their Inability to build the road for this year's crop as was asked, and it is to find out, if possible, the actual intentions of this road as regards the ; needs of the valley that the coming 1 meeting with the officials is being ar- ' ranged for. As soon as word is received as to a convenient date with the railroad people peo-ple the members of the general committee, com-mittee, as well as the executive committee, com-mittee, will be notified and meetings arranged for every town in both counties coun-ties at which expressions of the different dif-ferent towns will be secured and delegates dele-gates named to attend the meeting with the D. & R. G. officials. Incidentally, Inci-dentally, several prominent men of Salt Lake, Sanpete county and other j parts of the state have expressed a I willingness to join with us in our de- mands on the railroad authorities, and ! there will be little opportunity for j doubt of the feeling of this section on I the subject at that meeting. Messrs. Crockett of the Price Sun, ! Cooper of the Price News-Advocate, j and Williams of the Progress, all of ! whom were in attendance at Satur- ! j day's meeting, were named as a pub- I 1 licity committee, and these gentlemen I 1 expect to do their part in bringing j about the fulfillment of the long-de- j i layed but fervent hopes of the people 1 I of Castle Valley.
