Dixie and a man prominently identified with the early history of the region died at 830 a m Saturday at the home of Ills daughter Mrs A B Andrus of St George Mr Brooks was stricken with Influenza about two weeks ago and never rallied tr North Wales Born at March 4 1845 the son of Samuel and Emma Bllnxton Brooks the pioneer became a member of the L D 8 church with his family in 1855 The family came to Utah In 1858 arriving In Salt Lake In October Mrs Brooks died In Winter Quarters that waiter and Mr Brooks died soon after George then but a lad obtained work on the Salt Lake temple and leampd the trade of a stonecutter at which he became very proficient He later worked on various church and civic buildings throughout the state For more than 20 years he served as sheriff of Washington county and city marshal of St George and was also a member of the city couneiL A knife wound received over 30 years ago during his exciting career of law enforcement left a permanent mark uion him rheumatism resulting from the wound He had been a eontimimis resident of St George since 862 His wife preceded him 111 death February 10 1929 Mr Brooks is survived by five sons Oeorge Jr of
