Folsom Tribune Garden Editor A county-wid- e beautification and landscape improvement program in Wayne County saw 90 miles of the main highway through the county cleaned up by area youngsters. Theme of the cleanup was A Kid a Mile. There was one ehdd assigned one mile of the road to clean up the trash. And clean up they did bottles, paper, cans. The result was 10 dump trucks filled with trash and the cleanest stretch of highway in the state, all 180 miles, counting both side9. the successful campaign was spearheaded Airs. Folsom Cuia by Ekker, Bicknell, county beautification chairman. Every resident in Wayne County participated. There were all ages represented from 8 to 80 and all groups AU the communities were involved in this gigantic undertaking. Directing the work in the various communities were Loa, Iona Blackburn; Lyman Pearl DcLecuw; Bicknell, Lyn DeLeeuw; Teasdale Bernice Baker; Torrey, Ruby Santel; Hanksville, Gemene Hunt; and Fremont, Dimple Flugard. Streets in each community were raked and cleaned, side streets were graded. Various Classes There are numerous classifications which pro-- v ide opportunity for many kinds of projects : Class A garden club projects; B-- l civic and service club Church landscaping; Cl projects; B2 private gardens, professionally designed. C2 private non professional, D gardens community beautification and clean up ; El junior landscaping and gardening; E2 junior landscaping and gardening, group; E3 ranch and farm improvement; E4 neighborhood improvement; E5 tree plantings. Judging w'ill be by actual visits to sites of projects during the week of August 21. Awards will be given during a special awards ceremony and tea Oct 8 at the Garden Activity Center in Sugar House Park The Salt Lake Tribune will award specially designed plaques to winning projects in each class and certifictates of merit to district winners. Special awards will be given to those who keep their projects up after winning a state award When five contmuous improvement plaques are won. a special tree and plaque will be awarded. Generous Awards Communities will be trying for the generaous awards presented each year by the Utah Association of Nurserymen. They will award block plantmgs of trees valued by more than $400 each to the community with the most entries according to population in the over 3,000 classs Another goes to the community with the most entries under the 3,000 population range. Another award goes to the community making the most progress in one v ear's time.
