This is that the cheaper foods are not as nutritious as the more expensive ones. Fortunately for the family budget, price has no relation to nutritive value. As a matter of fact, the cheaper cuts of meet may be the most nutritious ones. Good advice for all of us would be to learn to eat from one end of the meat counter to the other. We need to diversify our purchases to include all cuts and all kinds rather than just a few favorites or just the ones that are quick and easy to prepare. If Trend Continues I attended a Beef Council conference recently where there was some discussion of the trend toward the purchase of ground beef and steaks only. This may be more shortsighted than food buyers realize. If the trend continues, there may come a time when all of the beef that isn't sold for steaks will be ground into hamburger. When that day arrives, Then what ground beef will cost as much as will we do when the price of beef goes up? It used to be that only the affluent could afford the regular purchase of steaks. The poor, of necessity, bought the cheaper cuts. There are no longer many poor among us, thanks to the use of food stamps, so everybody eats steaks regularly. While it is good to know that so many people can afford steaks, it is not good for either the economy of the market or for the individual to be so restrictive.
