He bases his judgment on Frommers straightforward advice and his unbiased opinions on where tourists should stay, eat and shop. years and writing about them in his Country Inns and Back Roads: North America (Berkshire Traveller, $4.95), coming out again this spring. In between blissfully sailing down country roads in this country, Simpson sneaked in his first trip to Europe to say at pamdores in Spain and inns and pensiones in Austria, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, England, Scotland and Ireland. YOU WOULD think he is the first man ever to go to Europe. He was so obviously thrilled at every place he recommends. The Youth Hostel Assn, has published its 1977 edition of Youth Hostelers Guide to Europe (Collier, $3.95), with information on 21 countries to tell bicyclists and hikers where to camp, hike, climb mountains and walk trails and, of course, where to find hostels for sleeping. Myra Waldos Travel and Motoring Guide to Europe (Collier, $9.95) also is revamped this year, and her suggestions not only include how you drive in Europe and England, but what to see, how much you should pay, what to pack and wear and where to eat. FODOR HAS a new book, too. In May, (David his Railways of the World McKay, $9.95), will be published. It includes lists of scheduled passenger service everywhere in the world (making annualthe book destined to be ly), railroad museums and hotels and restaurants with some connection to railroads. First, there are the general roundup Travel Temple Fieldings (Fielding, $9.95), published for the 30th year in a row this year, and Eugene Fodor's Europe (David McKay, $9.95). Fielding and Fodor are probably the best known names for recommending places to stay, eat and see during European travels. But once you have a Fielding or Fodor guide, even with currency changes and new hotels going up as fast as McDonalds hamburger stands throughout Europe, you really dont need types Guide f another. you look for a specialty travel second category.
