Show "Withth - Zolors" From Albert Albertson of Emery Dear Folks: Just a few lines to tell you that I am well and to tell you a little bit about our 4th of July celebration in France. In the morning at 8 o'clock there was a grand parade and review of both soldiers and sailors. The troops were reviewed by an American general and admiral, a French admiral, and several sev-eral colonels and other officers of the army and navy. The troops that took part in the parade were American, French, and Portugese. They did some splendid marching to music played by four excellent ex-cellent bands two American and two French. While the parade and review was going on several aeroplanes of different differ-ent types were flying to and fro over the huge crowd. It was great and somewhat new to a lot of us. I believe be-lieve it stirred the patriotism of every one present and made the French and (Continued on Page 4) "With the. Colors' (Continued from page 1) Americans feel nearer to each other. I am quite sure that it made every A-mcrican A-mcrican soldier and sailor feel glad that he is over here trying to do his bit. In the afternoon an athletic meet was held. Most of the contests were between the army and navy men and. to our great disappointment, the navy carried the day. One of the main events of the day was a half-mile race between five Americans and . five Frenchmen. Again, to our disappointment, disappoint-ment, one of the speedy young Frenchmen French-men pulled out on lead right at the last part of the race. Our boys got second and third places. At night an excellent program was given by the Y. M. C. A. and we had our liberty until 10:30 take notice of that 10:30. Pretty late for a soldier i in France! I imagine the Fourth was a big day ; this year above all other years. Trusting this finds all well at home i as it leaves me, I am, as ever, a devoted devot-ed son and brother, ALBERT. |
