Show NATIONAL TION CONGRESS f salt lake city utah july 29 ial call was today issued for the twentieth session ot of the national irrigation congress angress on gress which is to be held in this city sept 30 to oct 3 1912 the call IS ia signed by francis G newlands president arthur hooker secretary richard W young chairman of 0 the executive committee geo A snow chairman of 0 the utah board of control the first meeting of 0 the twentieth session will open at 10 on the morning oi of sept 30 1 0 the purpose being to hold morning afternoon and evening meetings tho the four days ot of the session in one portion of the official call he following statement is made maae it itis Js fitting that this important agricultural ri and industrial agency should meet this year in salt lake city the center of that splendid spen did empire which irrigation has reclaimed from the great american desert here its first meeting was held twenty one ears ago sept 15 to 17 1891 here also was the birth of oc the anglo saxon irrigation included in the personnel of 0 the national irrigation congress will be its officers the president and the vice pres dent of the united states slates members ot of the cabinet united states senators and congressmen governors ot of states and ot of insular possessors pos of the united states members ot of federal state and insular irrigation water and conservation commissions state engineers and commissioner of agriculture agri cultura and horticulture delegates from every state in the union and from foreign countries in addition to tile the fifteen delegates appointed by the governor of oe each state and territory representatives are colleg from universities colleges cities commercial and industrial bodies counties and associations devoted to irrigation agriculture herti horticulture ti and engineering announced subjects to be discussed by the congress are as follows irrigation of the great west storing ot of the floods measurement ot of streams scientific investigation of irrigation projects proper safeguarding of irrigation ioa laws preservation of irrigation laws opportunity to build new homes heeding the call of the landless man tor for the manless land elibol elimination by law of fraud in connection with the location of sale of land la nd cooperative op effort of government and state immigration officials close co operation of state engineers Althou although gli these are the subjects scheduled for consideration and advocacy by the congress undoubtedly others will arise as necessity may suggest the meetings will be conducted with democratic freedom and latitude to tile the beld del gates and free discussion will be encouraged cou raged many amusement features are also aho provided these include a great illuminated lumina ted parade on the night of sept 30 and a spectacular pageant of the night wizard of the a mysterious potentate of the realm of unconfined joy who is supposedly brought down out of some secret cave in the wasatch moun mountains kalns by a horde of f his gray wards an irrigation queen quee 11 1 is s to be selected from among the beautiful womanhood of the rocky mountain country and the lady is to be I 1 presented to the multitude with accompanying compa nying features of scenic splendor one of the will be a mammoth exhibit of the products of irrigated farms which will be educational as well as interesting the utah state fair will be in progress ss and ahls will be supplemented with mineral livestock and other exhibits provided by the congress |
