and Teens Is Free Lunch broaden their knowledge" Every member of the Pyper family has mastered a musical instrument from the piano to the trombone to the flute Each child has been a member of the Granite Junior Youth Symphony and the older ones have gone on to be soloists in the Granite Youth Symphony Mrs Pyper who teaches her children how to play the piano when they are 8 years old said all of them were eager to begin playing an instrument "We didn't have to force any of them to practice they did it because they love to play" The youth symphony practices all year long They perform a fall The Granite Youth Symphony rey cently returned from its annual summer tour which included performing in Calgary Alberta For one family the tour marked the 16th time a member has traveled with the symphony The Paul Pyper clan sent two of their eight children on the trip three family members have previously toured "We are a very musical family" said Janice Pyper mother "Music is our lives it's in our blood" The youth symphony is a organization for youngsters Mrs Pyper said "Going on the tour gives the kids a chance to meet new people make lasting friendships and 12-da- top-notc- h spring Christmas and summer concert every year "The kids in the orchestra don't mind all the practice because they are dedicated to their music They are good musicians leaders in their schools and good stu- Tribune Staff Writer On July 26 Kolby Reber and Da-kil- a Salazaar along with three other Utah students will be living a dream Kolby 12 and Dakila 13 — known to his friends as "DJ" — will be traveling to the Soviet Union to attend the International Space Camp at Novosibirsk The other three Utahns attending the camp will be Rangi Smart 14 Rocky Smart 12 and Kyle Anderson 12 all of Pleasant Grove Along with the five boys from Utah students from the Soviet Union Bulgaria Czechoslovakia Holland France and Kuwait will participate in the camp All five of the boys joined the camp through the Young Astronauts program at their schools The Young Astronauts is an international organization with more than 10000 chapters in the United States and 500 more worldwide Only five boys were chosen from the United States to participate all of them from Utah true" DJ are students at Salt Lake's Northwest Intermediate Kolby and School They entered the young Astronaut program through their math teacher Mila Baldazo "She told us it was a one in a million chance when she sent in our applications" Kolby said "But I guess they picked us because of some of the awards we got and stuff" Mrs Baldazo will also be attending the camp which lasts for 2 V4 weeks During that time the boys will hear lectures by space experts from around the world tour a Soviet science academy and study experiments in space design They also will have time for sightseeing around Moscow and the Novosibirsk area Since learning of their selection both Kolby and DJ have been preparing for their adventure They've County to Host The pedestrian overpass for students attending Silver Hills Elementary A should be complete by Aug 15 the Utah Department of Transportation announced recently The overpass will be built on 5600 West north of Mountain Man Drive (5085 South) In addition a bus loading and unloading zone will be built adjacent to the overpass The overpass is necessary because homes in the area are on the east side of
