Show EXPLOSION KILLS SIXTEEN. Ignition of Gas Pocket in Mulga Mine Causes Fatality; Twelve Injured. Birmingham, Ala. Sixteen men (Monday night are known to be dead and twelve injured as the result of s picket gas explosion early Monday at the Mulga mine of the Woodward Iron company, near Ensley. Removal of the bodies is proceeding slowly, only nine of the sixteen dead having been brought out early Monday night Mine officials state the explosion was purely local and was caused by 6triking a pocket of gas. The Mulga mine had a pre vious explosion April 20, 1910, when thirty-five were killed. |
