Show A BIC HATCHERY AT FISH LAKE Byron Hanchett, district fish and fame warden, came down from F sh Lake the past week, and he reports that the new fish hatchery, authorized by the last legislature, has been completed. com-pleted. J. D. Morrill, of Juncion was the constructing con-structing architect and he has done excellent ex-cellent work on the hatchery. It has a capacity of over one million eggs. There are fifteen vats into which the trays containing the fish spawn will be place.!. The hatchery is situated at the forks of Twin Creeks, where the water is absolutely pure and without sediment. The water is conducted into the vats, and it is safe to say no better facilities for hatching the spawn can be found in the state. The eastern brook trout in the lake are now ready to begin spawning and Mr. Hanchett left this week to begin the work of stocking the new hatchery. The building h-is two rooms for living 'rooms for the a.tendanrs and Mr. Hao-!chett Hao-!chett and Will Spafford will be on duty there as long as spawning goes on. The eastern brook trout will continue spawning until Februir.' and the native trout begins to spawn in that m uth and continues on until the beginning of June The gentlemen will take tdl the spawn possible and keep the hatchery working all winter and spring. In thiswav it is expected that the lake will be Hocked to capacity with trout, and it will become be-come the greatest angler's paradise in the west. - Reaper. |
