Wednesday, September 12. 1979 Despite Alta Opposition Rule Goes Against Bike Sale Planners Approve 2 Use Permits Salt Lake County planners approved two conditional use permits for developers of Little Cottonwood Canyon Tuesday, both against the outspoken wishes of Alta. The countys Planning and Zoning Commission approved the first phase (one building. 15 units! of a development to be built proposed by Sweetwater Properties and also reissued a conditional use permit for construction of 18 homes on Patsy Morley Hill by John Cahill. Both developments are near Alta. Sewer, Water Issues Alta's opposition, headed by Major William Levitt, is central to sewage and water use by the new areas, in addition to their proximity to Alta. Both developments would be within Salt Lake County's jurisdiction, although they lie close to Alta , which has stricter building requirements. The countys sewage district, which stretches to Snowbird, will allow Sweetwater to hook on However, a new state law allows towns to block of its boundaries if it development within a half-mil- e The City Commission exerted its extraterritorial to protect its watershed in Little jurisdiction Cottonwood Canvon f'yi CHICKEN Served o 1 n s manager. The man who was tried had illegally registered the bike in his own name. It was a defect in that registration that had led to his arrest. Meanwhile the real owner never received notice that his motorcycle was going on the block. ! OUR PRICE Latex GAL. On Tuesday, Bountiful Mayor Elmer W. Barlow met with representatives of the employees association in an attempt to clarify those policies. On Monday, the association released a statement denouncing the Bountiful City Councils decision to replace power p o we r to release the ev idence but left instructions that the bike was to be kept until a further order and then released to the owner. In the several months that passed, paperwork apparently was lost and when the thett trial concluded and Salt Lake County OKd release of the bike, Morrison discovered the State Tax Commission had sold the bike at a public sale. Standard Brands Paint and Decorating Centers 6Reacli operations dined A motorist who lost his motorcycle, first to a thief and finally through an erroneous unclaimed property sale, should have a chance to tell it to a judge, the Utah Supreme Court has decided. The high court reversed a 3rd District Court dismissal and ordered a trial on the claim of Cam Morrison. the cycle's owner, that the State Tax Commission committed a negligent error when it sold the bike that was being held as evidence in a theft case. The case started two years ago when the ow ner reported the vehicle missing. Suspect Arrested Eight months later, a man riding the motorcycle was arrested and was charged with theft. Morrison identified the motorcycle as his and requested its return. Salt Lake County prosecutors de- - intends to annex the property. Mayor Levitt said Alta may invoke the law if necessary to stop the development unless Sweetwater officials agree to annex. Annexation fears of both developers center around Altas master plan, which would reduce the scope of their overall proposal. If Altas sewage system is not made available to homes on Patsy Morley Hill, Andy Nelson, project manager, said his organization will construct a 25,000-gallo- n sealed vault, with a sewer system for the 18 homes draining into it. New Watershed Law In a related development, Salt Lake City Tuesday jumped into the fray by asking for a new law requiring that watershed developers connect to nearby sewer lines, rather than build sealed sewage vaults.
