Show ERASTUS P HANSEN AT LAST peacefully and without a shadow of pain ain erastus P hansen departed from this his life early il monday londay morning the end has not been unlooked unlocked tor for by ills hia family for many weeks about eight months ago air hansen suffered an attack it of heart failure and it will be recalled that he was in a precarious condition for some time but finally recovered sufficiently to walk out and even appeared on the streets uptown ills condition did not improve however and liis ills strength declined so rapidly that he was forced to keep to the house and could hardly walk out onto the porch for a sun bath each day his son ernest who was laboring in australia as a missionary was sent for and arrived home a few weeks ago air hansen did not suffer any pain whatever but his body grew weaker and weaker through the sluggish action ot of the heart of a natural robust physique he lost flesh until it would be hard to recognize him and those who watched over him could plainly see that it would be but a matter of time fine when the vital machinery would stop altogether and that is practically wl what tat happened monday morning a few minutes before lye ive mr hanson was wont to arise early andon and on IN monday fond y j I 1 e a etem apted ifa ib get up at the same time telling hi his wife that hat he did not believe lie he had strength to walk across the floor she arose to 0 o assist him and as he straightened to 0 o a standing posture he collapsed in nis cifes arms and sank back upon the bed the rest of the family were wera asleep up stairs and mrs hansen called to them and sent word to some of the neighbor re relatives lathes but by the tima they arrived mr hansen had ceased breathing and lay still in death the end came cae without a struggle ot of any kind erastus P hansen was born in brigham city dec 1st ast 1855 and was the second male child born in this city so he practically grew up tip with the community and has watched its development front from the beginning or very nearly from the beginning in 1876 on november ath he be was married to christens christena anderson and ten children blessed that union all of whom are living but three ills his mother sister mrs minnie J lund and brother cris cals hansen of weston also survive him mr hansen wis was a man who never sought public preferment but lived in his family he was a farmer by pro and through his thrift and industry he gathered to himself and family a goodly portion of this worlds goods sufficient to make life comfortable for or them all for the last two or three years he has served as precinct and in the fourth ward he was one ot of the truthful workers in an ecclesiastical way he was a son of the late james hansen and come from a sturdy Y line ol of ancestors an honest man giving to every one his just dues and taking the advantage of 0 none mr hansen had a wide circle of friends who mourn with his bis family ills his departure yet all realize the the sufferer sul is better oft off and la Is now resting peacefully ills his family is grown practically and many ot of the children are married funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 in the fourth ward meeting house and weve were attended by one ot of the largest congregations that ever gathered in that building bevery seat scat in the auditorium on the stand in it the choir loft was taken and roas ot of benches and chairs were placed in the vestibule for the accommodation of 0 those who could not find fin d room room anywhere else bishop wright as in charge of rider elder jacob jensen and pres oleen N stohl each one eulogized the character of the deceased and spoke words of comfort to the bereaved A divine influence accompanied C compa ompa nied the remarks of each speaker and the services were most beautiful between speakers W V and waldemar call sang jesus lover ot of my soul and callie lund and morilla L spencer sang tired the closing number by the choir was the hymn though deepening deep ning trials and the benediction was offered by elder ephriam tillotson Till the aged mother of II 11 r hansen 86 years was present she has had eleven n children and ad has burled buried them all but two abany relatives from out of town were present and the services were a splendid testimonial of the esteem in which the deceased was held in this community the stand was completely covered with a wealth of I 1 flowers and floral designs contributed by sympathizing friends and relatives A large cortege accompanied the remains to the cemetery where they were tenderly laid away to await the call of the trumpet on the morning of the resurrection the news extends sincere sympathy to mrs hansen and family in their bereavement and our earnest prayer is that god will give them strength to ac acknowledge now ledge ills his will and bear up under er their affliction |
