Show NEW REVENUE LAW EFFECTIVE NEXT TUESDAY Following are some of the provisions of the new revenue law, passed by the last congress to offset the failing off in revenue derived from import duties, on account of the European war. Most of the burdens will fall on the users of socalled luxuries. A tax of $1.00 a barrel on all beer, ale, porter, or Other similar fermented liquors has been levied. lev-ied. On all wines, domestic and im- I ported, a tax of 1 cent on each bottle of more than one half pint and not more than one pint; on a quart a tax of tw6 cents will be levied and on still ! wines in other sized containers the rate ' shall he 8 cents per gallon. On and after the first of December the taxes 1 vied on the banks will be $1.00 for e .eh $1,000 of capital used or employed. i and in estimating this capital surplus and undivided profits shall be considered. Proprietors of theaters museums and concert halls, where a fee for admission is charged shall pay a tax of $25 for a seating capacity of not more than 250, for more than 250 and not over 500, $50; for over 200 and not exceeding 800, $75; for over 800, $100 shall be the special tax. Proprietors of bowling alleys and billiard rooms shall pay a tax of $5 for each alley or table. Dealers in tobacco whose sales exceed $200 shall each pay $4.80 for each store I or shop operated. Manufacturers of tobacco whose annual sales do not exceed 100,000 pounds shall each pay $6. All documents such as stocks, certificates, certifi-cates, bonds or debentures on each $100 of face value shall have the stamp tax of 5c thereon. Promissory notes, except ex-cept bank notes issued for circulation, and for each renewal of the same, for a sum not exceeding $100, two cents; and each additional hundred of fraction thereof, two cents. For all telephone messages or telegrams tele-grams of fifteen cents or over a tax of j one cent shall be levied. Insurance policies shall be taxed a sum of one half cent for each one hundred dollars of the policy. i |
