Wliy be afraid? Certainly the directions for using it are a specific enough, but the timid- 3 ' Fi' 1 ity comes from the fear of food A spoilage. Heloise for hot summer Except days, for my own peace of mind I solved the problem ui two ways. (1) If possible, I freeze the food first. In the morning, put this solidly frozen food with all the necessary seasonings into the oven as usual More than likely it will remain partially frozen until the o en comes on. e (2) If 1 am unable to the meat and must use the meat m its soft state, I then add a whole tray of ice cubes to the roasting pan instead of the usual water. Re sure to coier the pan to aid in the insulation. It will be quite a while before all of the culies have dissolved. Remember that the oven itself. Just put them In the bathtub or any contamer that will hold them. Run HOT water over them and pour in a generous amount of washing soda which can be found with the laundry products in your super- market. Let the racks sit until the water is cool enough to put your hands in. By this time, the grease and grime will almost fall off by itself. I run a soap-fillepad over mine to help remove the stuff quicker but it will never be necessary to d really scrub them. Judy Reynolds DEAR HELOISE: Now that hot weulher is here I buy extra bars of my favorite soap, and put these in the attic, leaving them all summer. Tlie bars of soap dry out and when I am ready to use them, they last much longer as they don't get mushy. Evelyn Holmes DEAR HELOISE : The other day I was ready to make frosting (or a cherry cake when I discovered I only had powdered sugar and no type of cherry flavoring. I spotted the cherry flavored drink mix I had just mixed up for my two daughters, and thought, why not? I creamed a little margarine with the powdered sugar as usual and added the drink for the liquid required The frosting turned out beautifully . It was even a gorgeous pink color! Im sure any other flavor mix would work equally well, and it could be added dry to the powdered sugar and then the liquid added, though you would have to check for tartness. First and foremost, of course, she is rich. Perhaps, as heiress to the Greek shipping empire built by her late father, Aristotle Onassis, she is the ru hest woman in the world. She has also been called petulent, sad, tragic and Knight-Ridde- Many adjectives tough. It was the beginning of a three-yea- r stretch of personal tragedy for Miss Onassis. In 1973, her beloved brother. Alexander, heir apparent to the Onassis fortune, died in a plane crash. The next year, her mother, Tina Niarehos (who had divorced Aristotle Onassis in 1960 and married his business arch-nva- l, Stavros Niarehos) died. The final blow came with the death of her father in early 1975. After Alexanders death, Onassis asked his laughter to jump off the Paris - Rome -- But perhaps the best description of this tall, slender, young (27) woman is unpredictable. The le word captures her throughout this decade, at least, and certainly seemed fitting the other day in Moscow when she announced that she would marry for a third time Tuesday in the Sov iet capital. Out of Work was Her intended Sergei Kauzov, & former official in the tanker division of Sovfrakht, the Soviet shipping organization. According to reports from Moscow, Kauzov has seen Miss Onassis, whom he met during negotiations between the Onassis shipping firm and Sovfrakht, almost daily since the He is millionairess arrived in the city in described as about 40, currently out of work. Sources in Athens said that Miss Oanssis' family is deeply concerned about the marriage, although no official leaction has been voiced. But. the unpredictable Christina Onassis has been the subject of family concern for most of her life. Most of the world has forgotten that Miss Onassis was born an American citizen in New York on Dec. 11. 1950. Her friends from her childhood paint her as an impulsive girl who was never interested in school and, in fact, dropped out at age 15. As a teen-age- r, she floated through the Pucci-Gucworld of the super-ric- h carrying on a number of sub-de- b and post-de- b European romances. Her formal education ended in 1968 at Londons Queens College, where she disinterestedly studied French and English (she is fluent in both and speaks them better than she speaks Greek). life-sty- mid-Jun- e. ci Marry Jacqueline It was that year that her father married the widowed Jacqueline Kennedy. The marriage created a gulf between father and daughter that was stormier and more inhospitable than any ever crossed by an Onassis tanker. In what was perceived as a retaliatory gesture. Miss Onassis, then 20, ran off to Las Vegas and married California real estate broker Joseph Bolker, 27 years her senior, in the summer of 1971. The union lasted nine months and, amid rumors of a sleeping pill suicide attempt by Christina, ended in divorce in Monaco - Hollywood and into the family business. She was to become the crown princess of the Onassis empire. Went to Work And this headstrong young unpredictably woman who was more accustomed to the beach chairs of St. Tropez rather than the armchairs of corporate board rooms, did what her father asked. She went to New York to work and learn under Onassis most trusted advisers. She applied herself with diligence. She learned the fundamentals of the business at her fathers side, but when she inherited the bulk of the empire after her father's death, observers felt she would probably turn the running of the business over to senior company officials. Once again, Christina failed to perform as and in predicted. She picked up the corporate reins no uncertain terms. As she told a group of British oilmen a few months after Onassis death: From now on, if there is anything to be decided on, you will deal with me. merry-go-roun- d youve felt Meanwhile things were becoming even more glacial between Christina and Jacqueline Kennedy n Onassis, who wanted a bigger slice of the the (500-millio- estate. Lawyers Finally worked out an arrangement in September that gave Mrs. Onassis $21 million in exchange for her relinquishing any further claims to the estate. Christina was in control of the family business. Whether she will remain in control is the subject today of great concern in Athens. The Greek press has speculated that control of the firm may fall into the hands of the Russians. luxury of llama reg. 240 sM' 'ti 199.99 ;i From the mountains of Peru, fabulous luxury few experience. Still, many people felt that a man should be at the top and conjecture persisted that Christina would marry her constant companion, Peter Goulandris, heir to another Greek shipping fortune. In fact, it was rumored that she had promised her father, shortly before his death, that she would do just that.
