Show AUTO PARTV RETURNS VIA PRICE CANYON ROUTE Messrs. C. T. Bo-.ven, James Petersen, S. P. Snow, Jr. and David S. Williams, who made the trip to Salina as delegates to the convention, instead of returning home immediately, made the trip'''nn up to Salt Lake City hy auto, or at least, three of them did, Mr Petersen stopqihg temporarily at Ephraim to k :ep an engagement. en-gagement. This party found excellent road conditions right into the city, though rain had made some parts a little hard to travel. It was the first trip through the Sevier-Sanpete country for 'some numbers of this party and it was the opening of a -wonderland to such of the party. With cultivated fields from mountain side to mojntain side, heauti ful homes on every hand and roads that were superb, it semS almost sacrilege for some of our states-people to he so d. termined on making the tourist, who comes west with an already I mistaken idea of the state in genera, I pass up this beautiful country and remain re-main in comparat.ve ignorance of one of the best states in the union. ! Coming back by way of Price canyon, 'it was found necessary to unload and push op. the nrdmary grade west of the summit in several instances and the j machine was almost hopelessly stuck ; in the mud for a half-hour this side of 1 Colton, until friendlv har.ds turned in a-id hel J?d with all their might. Ti'.ere are at present no culverts that we could see anywhere along the 3 or 4 miles of gra 'e and in our mind it will take a vast amount of money to put in necessaay culverts and trenches and widen the road sufficiently to m ike the Price route perm-ment. On the other hand there are no steep grades in Salina canyon the road is not perched half wav up the mountainsidethe mountain-sidethe grade is a permanent one and properly supplied with everlasting culverts cul-verts the scenery L- equal i; not super ior to that in Price canyon, (a couple of magnificent tunnels adding no little to "the sure way" route) there is plenty of good water in easy access, and with the telephone line that is planned for the southern route, the tourist will never be out of range with the human habitation any more so than he woul I I be by the "trail" way. I A few washes were found along "the ! sure way" this sij-e of the summit that were hard to get into and out of, some soft road was encountered and a few stretches where high centers . are met ; with are the only present disadvantages of the all-year route and these can and Lwill be remedied in short order, j AH things considered the auto driver who is anything short ot an expert i would be far safer in taking the ! Salina route, besides finding "the sure j way," a time, wear and tear, and patience saver; at the same time learn-! learn-! ing more of a veritable wonderland. ! Here's predicting a sure future for "the sure way" the Salina Canyon : route! ! Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Wihon of Salt Lake City accompanied the party to j Castledale and visited Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Bowen, old friends, before going to Green R vea where Mrs. Wilson i (formerly Miss Gregory) used to live. |
