A num- ' ber of years ago a convict m tne Ui.nn ! penitentiary wrote a uouk which he wanted published under an assumed ; name so tnat his motner wouldn't learn j where he was. Al though a hardened 'criminal he did not want to disturb the peace of his aged motner in her f ar-a- I way home. This beautiful regard lor j mother is almost universal among hu- j man beings and it is the most beautiful ! thing in tne world. And while on this subject let us admonish boys and girls everywhere to have regard for motner. j Her life has peiviaps been hard and dull, j and her face may be careworn so that j she is not so attractive as you, but never mind that. Read her heart and ! look into her soul for beauty. There ! you will find it in plenty. Her love for j you is the most chaste, the most pure 1 and the most sainted that you will ever know. Therefore you should regard her. Make her daily path pleasant and her labors easy. There is nothing in all creation that would so cheer her and light up her life as a little kindness, a little love and affection purposely given by you. Why. it would make earth new to her and life would thrill with divinity for her if you caused her no worry. Think, young people, what' these pioneer mothers have endured here in the desert that you might live and enjoy! Let it not be said that they shall have but sorrow as a reward. Make your lives worth while and you will scatter joy about you. Don't put ' it off. Start today. Salina Call. I |
