Show British Seamen's Thrift. For the years 1855 to 1912 the number num-ber of 'British seamen's money orders Issued at ports in the United Kingdom and abroad was 3,365,489, of the value of over 19,000,000. On March 31 last, only 742 of these orders remained re-mained unpaid, their value being 7,060. The total amount of seamen's wages transmitted home between 1878 and 1912 was 5,550.000, and the amount transmitted foreign between 1894 and 1912 was over 1,000,000. "Shipping" Illustrated. ' |
