The performance, held on a outdoor stage at Centennial Park, attracted a record; number of audiences through five performances as nearly 4,000 attended shows from Aug 15 through 20 . On Monday, Aug 19, the audience swelled to 1,800, spanning the entire grass area in front of the stage extending back into the baseball diamond and filling the bleacher seats. The success of the show began with a combination of an excellent leading cast, along with precise choreography and direction by Tracee Conde Walker and an Jerome Peterson portrayed Joseph in the West Valley Arts Council recent production. Despite rain on Monday and the threat of rain on Tuesday, attendance at the performances remained high. In the lead role of Joseph was Jerome Peterson, whose skilled voice brought new depth to the character than what is commonly seen in most local Joseph productions. His voice and demeanor made Joseph come alive. ! Peterson was both witty and humorous si the right places as he shows off his coat of many colors to his brothers and brought the audience, and himself, to tearsmore than once in his portrayal of Joseph while in prison s inging "Close Every Door"' and the finale reunion with his Father Jacob, played by Ray Cameron, Peterson's portrayal of Joseph was tender and moving instead of conceded and arrogant Joseph's brothers were another key element of die musical who were highlighted more than most other productions give the 1 ensemble. Placing the brothers in a - QteKgE(Hi!n$ sjtrsvv Mfeg snowglobe during "Those Canaan Days" was a creative and amusing twist that gave all of the brothers a chance to enjoy their moment in addition to the French accented singing of Reuben, played by Bruce Craven. The cast excelled during the production numbers of "Benjamin Calypso," led by the amusing antics of Nathan Lingwall and during n the square dance of "One More Angel in Heaven" led by Jeff Jensen. Pulling the whole show together was Julie Nelson Blatter as the Narrator who took the cast and audience from scene to scene. The Sphinx backdrop to die Elvis persona of Pharaoh, was as dynamic as Pharaoh himself, played by Clair Wilcock, who had girls swooning and fainting on stage and women screaming in the audience as he proclaimed "Pharaoh is in the house."
