The Pioneer Valley Hospital volunteers paid tribute to fellow volunteers who have passed away in the last year by releasing 30 pink balloons during their their summer party on Aug. 3. They also released a special balloon in remembrance of Mayor Gearid Wright Following the balloon release, the volunteers went to the Hale Theater to see The Music Man. There are currently 43 volunteers who donate 5 hours a week at Pioneer Valley. Services were held Aug Thelma Smith Drake Steadman, 92, of Kearns, Utah passed away Aug. 9, at the home of her son, Lee, in Salt Lake City. She was bom Aug 16, 1909 in Granger, UT, the daughter of Roby Earl and Catherine Park Smith. She married Franklin L. Drake Sr. on Dec 14, 1927 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1959. She married William H. Steadman in Aug 1960; he died Jan 16, 1975. Thelma was a member of the LDS church where she served in all organizations. She worked for a time in the Jordan River LDS Temple. She volunteered at die . ; Pioneer, Daughtsr&ftfg building in Salt Lake City and served as a State Chaplain. She enjoyed listening to music, reading, crocheting and collecting dolls. Survived by two sons, Franklin Lee (Janet) Drake Jr., Joseph Earl (Lillian) Drake, both of Salt Lake City; seven grandchildren She worked in the dry 14, at 11 a.m. in the Redwood Memorial Mortuary Chapel 6500 South Redwood Rd., West Jordan. She passed peacefully in her sleep to rejoin family and loved ones that have awaited her arrival. Our mother was loved and cherished by a multitude of family and friends. Survived by her sons, Larry (Robyn), Leon (Susan), and Layne (Sonna); sister, Margaret (Lowell) Shields; brother, Curtis (Shawnee) Nash; nine 'r; grandchildren; eleven and many nieces and nephews. Alice Hickok Alice Hickok of West Valley City just celebrated her 80th Birthday! She is a member of the Westlake Ward Granger North Stake where she is very active. Alice is from Pioneer Heritage. Her ancestors were in the second group that came into the Salt Lake Valley. Her great Grandfather was a member of the Mormon Battalion. Alice was bom in French Camp, Calif. She grew up in Modesto Calif. Became a member of West Valley City in Dec. 1998. She is the mother or 5 children. She has 30 grandchildren. We all wish her a very happy 80th year!!! Congratulations! She is 17 years old and is about the begin her senior year at West High School. She is an AP & IB honors student with a 4.0 GPA. She will be an officer for the National Honors Society, a Yearbook editor. Her projects included a Book or Mormon Challenge for the Young Women in her ward and sewing a skirt for a school dance.
