Saturday and Sunday. Twenty-eigh- t Utah performing artists will also be featured throughout the Festival. Refreshments booths and cafe seating will adjoin both forming arts states per- offering to crepe everything from hot dogs suzettes. Perrero: Gavla Wollston, daughter of David and Rose Woolston: Kimberly Cook, daughter of Mrs. Javceen Cook; Craven, Lynne states of John and Rose Craven; and Lisa Doud. daughter of Edward and Nancy Doud. Bishop William K. Wiegland will conduct a Mass at 12 p.m. and will also address the gathering. Mayor Ted Wilson. Citv and County Commissioners will also be in attendance. Except for parking charges, admittance will be free by mentioning All State Italian Dav participation at the gate. The All State Italian Dav is a fund raising festivity sponsored annually by the Italian American Civic League of Salt Lake Citv. The celebration in itself has been a tradition in Magna for 45 years. Behind the Magna celebration are two men who have earned recognition and support from the entire town. Lloyd Beck and Rov Smith are co- chairmen of the Independence Day Committee. With these two men we have a July tradition. Roy Smith has been with the committee for 45 years, and Lloyd Beck has served for 25 years. These men. along with Brent Huish of Magna Water. the entire organize celebration Last year the cost of the Magna 4 th was over $33,000. The money comes from The Oquirrh Fund (funded by United Way ). The Independence Day Committee, and ticket sales for the annual nrizedrawine Lloyd told me that without the good volunteer workers, the 4th would not be a success. He was especially thank-Magn- a ful for the United Steel Workers Union Local 392. 4347, 4413. It was 16 years ago during a strike that the Union began sponsoring the Miss Magna Float, Lloyd and Roy begin the work in January, this is all volunteer work for the town of Magna. 1 was deeply impressed with the devotion and care lor the town that goes beyond the 4th of July. They have also attended many county commission meetings to help save our parks. And even the county commission tells how they saved the old field house from being torn down. Lloyd told me how he gets many hours of help and support from his wife. When I asked him how long he would work for the 4 th of July, he said, Untilldie. Roy has lived in Magna 60 years. and has helped with many a town council meeting. Kelsey, research assistant professor of pediatrics who is studying interferon as a treatment for several diseases, including various tumors and viral infections. Interferon is a protein made by a number of different cells in the body that inhibits the growth of some viruses and tumors, explains Dr. effects are Kelsey. Its widely recognized, but the anti viral properties of interferon may be even more promising. Dr. Alan S. Crandall, assistant professor of ophthalmology, is conducting the clinical trials. Volunteers with confirmed viral conjunctivitis (pink eye) make six visits to University Hospitals eye clinic over a three week period. All fees and lab costs are for adpaid. Persons may call ditional information. There is no effective treatment for conjunctivitis now available, although ointments or drops may be prescribed to ease the discomfort, says Dr. Crandall. Its a common disease that can drag on for weeks and occasionally can lead to corneal complications.
