Over 40 in the event scouts participated spearheaded by Jack Cox. The troops sponsored by the Magna, PG 1st, PG 2nd, PG 3rd, and PG 4th Wards were represented. Fifteen races were held in eight different events. Lifeguard Bart demonstrated various Fotheringham strokes, safety and life saving techniques between events. The evening was climaxed with a coin dive. First place winners in competition were: Freestyle Event Jamie Sargent, Michael Travis Thomas, Grant Turpin, Obray, Underwater Event Michael Olsen 2 year old; Travis Thomas, Racing Backstroke Event Jamie Sargent , 11 year-old; Jeff White, ; Michael Obray, 1 Resting Swim Meet. 1982-Mag- na ld; 11-1- -- Backstroke Event Brandon Obray. Shirt Rescue Event (teams) Vaughan Fairchild and Jimmie Jones. Surface Dive Event: Jason Petty, Tyson Pike. Side Stroke Even-- t Michael Cox. Relay Event (Team-s- ) Jamie Sargent, Michael Obray Jeff White and Cris Lloyd. Jeremy Frandson took second place in four events, Ephrairr. Kurszewski, Jeremy Wezel and Michael Cox each took second place in two events: Cris Lloyd, Tyson Pike, Greg Page, Terrin Hampton, Tracy Robinson, Brandon Cox, John Temple, Grant Turpin, Allen Kenner and Steve Meyers each took second place in one event. Ribbons will be awarded at the Stake Court of Honor scheduled for the evening of March 17. The next big competition event for these Scouts will be the annual Track and Field Day in May. erendipity Ports BASEBALL Pirates Swim ueam tLm.LW t l m t.LLLLLm.t.LLLLLLLHLLLLfl The Pirate Swim Club excelled in the meet held on Granger Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Granger High School. A total of 12 teams participated. Three Pirates took High Point in their divisions. Sheri Sessions in the eight and and under B, Shelly Hayes in the nine-teC division. The Troy Richards in the A and B times received by the swimmers were more than has been produced in recent years. B-- C n, 13-1- 4 The winners are as follows : 8 --under, Freestyle 3rd. Traci Lester 1st, and Traci Richards 2nd in the 1 girls age group. In the boys Chad Blanchard took 2nd, while Greg Sizemore took 1st. Troy Blanchard was 4th in t he 1 1 1 2 boys group. 100 yard IM Tiffany Hayes swam to 4th place in the girls, while sister A in the received her time Shelly girls age group. Kim Tanner came in 5th in the same age group. Tricia Matz received a B time in the group. In the boys, Chad and Greg Blanchard 3rd in the 0 S izemore 2nd in the 1 group. 11-1- 9-- 10 1-- 9-1- 0 -- 0 Darla Kelson, Patricia Matz, 5th, Tiffany Byers, 1st, age group, Troy Richards took 1st and Lee Anderson took 5th. 50 butterfly Patricia Matz received 3rd in the while Chad Blanchard took first place in the age group. 50 g 1 f I 1 f IT 0 breaststroke Shelly Hayes took another A time, while Keri Sessions came in 3rd in the 0 age group. Patricia Matz took 5th in the 2 and Lee Anderson came in 4th in the 4 boys. 50 backstroke Darla Kelson, a fairly new swimmer, took 1st in the 0 girls, while Patricia Matz took 4th in the 9-1- 11-1- 13-1- 9-1- 11-1- 2. 11-1- as apple pie and hot dogs. It hits you in April when flowers bloom and the sun comes out. Its baseball. Kids love it . I love it and you love it. Even blind men love it because it gives them a chance to make a buck umpiring and they dont even have to use their tin cups and white canes. Baseball is a game where a curve is an optical illusion, a screwball can be a pitch or a person, stealing is legal and you can spit anywhere you want to except in the umpires eye. Baseball is a team game, and teams need coaches and manager. A good manager is one who exudes optimism. The idea is to keep the fans and the papers from knowing how bad the team really is. Even if the team is poor there are several handy euphemisms which can be used to conceal the athletic bankruptcy of the team.
