Show WHEAT CROP IS THE THI prediction minnesota only northern state that falls below production of 1904 wash agton W 11 II have banner year washington highly favorable re ports indicate that the northern tier of seven eve states stretching from the head waters of the mississippi on the east to puget sound on the west will produce not less than 2166 bushels of wheat this year these states are an immense granary their wheat crop has more than doubled in the last few years and the harvest in these seven states alone Is annually from 35 to 40 per cent of ot the aggregate for the whole country in 1904 minnesota the two dakotas montana idaho wash agton and ore gon had a combined spring and win ter wheat crop of bushels vr tyr nearly 38 per cent of the total crop in the united states this year the harvest arvest li will probably be about 7 VOU bushels larger kust rust has affected the crop rather seriously in minnesota and the con of the growing crop as reported to the agricultural department this month Is six points below the record ot of last august on the other hand the estimated acreage in minnesota Is 18 one fiftieth larger than in 1904 and the present outlook is for a crop a little more than 3 bushels short of last year a harvest in every other state in the list of seven the condi eions are more favorable than at this time timen n 1904 and there is good promise of a au increased production the most favorable conditions arc arp in the state of washington increased creage r aage and the condition of the grow ing crop being considered the ac creage conditions are as follows min desota 2 per cent larger than last year orth dakota per cent larger south dakota 2 per cent smaller montana 10 per cent larger idaho I 1 per cent larger washington 7 per cent larger oregon 2 per cent larger in the case ot of minnesota the increased acreage is probably more than offset by the decre decrease ae in condition of the crop as compared with august of last year in the six other states the con is invariably improved A conservative estimate of the win ter wheat crop this year in idaho washington and oregon gives idaho 6 bushels washington 10 bushels and oregon 7 99 bushels it would not be surprising however it if the crop should be larger than this estimate especially in idaho and washington spring wheat conditions in utah are a little less favorable but the indica indies eions are that this year s crop will ex aeed 4 bushels the acreage is supposed to be about I 1 per cent less than that of 1904 and the august aver age condition con dlton diton is 2 per cent below the normal an estimate based on data gives a total crop for this year of 4 bushels |
